  • Dual Boot System-Vista or XP first?

I am getting ready to do a reinstall and will be doing a dual boot. I have been doing a little research and cannot seem to get a solid answer on whether XP or Vista should be installed first. I have only done a dual boot with Vista installed first, but I read in one place that recommended XP be installed first. Does anyone have any ideas if installing one or the other first will improve the system? Thanks.

I honestly don't think it will matter much which one you do first.
This is what I used on my dual-boot install as I had already had XP installed for quite some time.

In my experience it doesnt really matter that much, but when I set up dual-boot on my laptop, vista was already installed from factory defaults and installed xp afterwards. Since you will be choosing what system will be booted up everytime you turn on/restart your computer, your PC will benefit from that OS.

Actually you should install the oldest OS first, in this XP, so that you'll use the latest boot loader when starting up.

If you do it the "standard" way, then yes this is the way to go. Because obviously Vista will see XP, but XP will not see Vista...

I found it easier when I dual booted to go with XP first.

I use Vista's booter and both Windows XP and Windows Vista are visible in the boot menu.
