  • Robot saves children from poisonous viper

    http://www.botjunkie.com/2009/11/20/...-deadly-viper/

A few days ago Efi Frida(39) returned to her home in Mizpe Avtalyon in the Galilee and tried to turn on her Roomba. after a few failed tries Efi opened the machine and to her surprise found that during one of the vacuuming sessions it caught a Vipera palaestinae. The Roomba is built to vacuum the dust independently under beds and cabinets.

We usually think of robots as being like those in Terminator, intent on taking over the world. Now I'm imagining Arnold Schwarzenegger in a French maid's outfit with a snake handling prod.... :p

I thought it was gonna be an article where a kid used a rock-em sock-em robot to beat up a snake...

    Still an awesome story.

Nice. I could see the snake hissing away at the Roomba even as the Roomba is running all over the snake gobbling it up from tail to head. :p

I suggest that Roomba market the next model as the "Mongoose".

Poor thing. It was a non-poisonous snake.

              Huh?

Vipera palaestinae is a venomous viper species found in Syria, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon.[1] Considered a leading cause of snakebite within its range.[4] No subspecies are currently recognized.[5]

It was a Coluber Jugularis not a Vipera Palaestinae. They look similar but the banding on the back is different.

Herp ID is not easy to do via photos. But even if it's not poisonous, the roomba gets points for keeping the home clean! Snakes are not welcome inside the home unless properly housed in some sort of secure container!
