  • Question about Ram (# of sticks).

    Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227248
    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131295

Here is the situation: I have 4 sticks of the above ram. I am currently using 2 sticks (in slots 1/3). My #2 slot is broken and I get a BSOD if I put ram in it.

So can I run ram in slots 1/3/4 without any problem/performance issues?

    Thanks!

Re: Question about Ram (# of sticks).

The only performance hit you might take is the loss of the ability to run your RAM in dual channel. I you can take advantage of the extra RAM it should outweigh using dual channel mode. 6GB of RAM is a lot, 4 is probably plenty for the time being.

Also the more RAM slots you populate generally the less overclocking headroom you have. Not sure if this is an issue for you.

Should be fine, even with the minor non-dual channel hit.

If you get issues, drop to 4GB until you can replace your board. You'll probably be suprised how little difference the 6GB is above 4GB.

After reading your manual some IF I understand it right on page 2.4.2 it sais that it will work but the single stick will run at single channel speeds while the set will run at dual channel speeds.
