          Re: New build: Need Feedback.

Been meaning to reply to this...

Here would be two possible suggestions.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.339241 (I couldn't find an i5-5870 combo but if you switch to the HIS brand 5870 you can bump up to a i7-860 for about $25 more considering the discounts)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.349202 (hard to argue with this one imo)

Also this would be a good buy on your case assuming your not in a super hurry since it says special order.

Killer combos! I was originally going to build this as an I7-920 build... That seems like a great combo and a good compromise between the i&-920 and the 750 people swear by.

EDIT: Nothing has been purchased yet...

              Re: New build: Need Feedback.

You could cut back by going with a HD5850 and double your RAM instead to 8 GBs (maybe save $40 too). You're not really gaining all that much of an edge with the HD5870 vs. the HD5850. Plus you're paying $120 more for perhaps 10 more frames on some games (others are as high as 40 depending on resolution).

There is currently a $10 extra discount on the WD Black with this code: EMCYPYX46.

                3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

Holy cow, I missed that one. Get Win7 OEM x64. No point in getting retail if you're building the rig yourself. Not unless you really enjoy flipping through the Windows 7 "manual" for hours on end going over menus and functions you're pretty familiar with.

Hmm, I just took a look at Anandtech's review of the Athlon II X4 630 CPU. It offers roughly 90% performance of a i5 750 (turbo mode really skews this as it's practically "factory overclocking") but at $100 instead of a whopping $180+.

                      Read the review here.

You could save yourself another $100 or more by going with a AM3 board and a Athlon II X4 630. The question is, are you willing to give up that extra 10% of performance for a $100+ savings?

I don't see how you can read that review and come to that conclusion. The charts make it quite obvious the i5 750 is considerably better.

Fine. Consider it considerably better. I don't see "considerably better" looking at and comparing the numbers with the price of the two chips. Given that the i5's also have Turbo Mode enabled, it further skews the data towards the i5s. Like one commenter put, Anand should at least correct the charts to show 2.93-3.20 GHz when Turbo is active for that particular bench.
