  • Graphics card question...

    So this summer I plan on building my own computer. I've found pretty much all I need, except I was just wondering something:

    The games I will be running on my computer will be: COD 4 and 5, Halo 2 for Vista, Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, Battlefield 2 and 2142, and C&C Red Alert 3 and Generals. With Tiberian Twilight being the game needing the best graphics, would this card be acceptable?

    If you think not, got any other suggestions?

    It would be more than adequate but you might what to consider an ATI 5770 as it will give you Dx11 support as well.

      I second that suggestion. For $150, you can pick up a HD5770 now. You'll get better performance as well as lower power consumption and a cooler card.

        I have this card but the XFX version. Installed good and drivers work good. No problems so far and i've had it about 6 months maybe? I wish I had bought the 5770 though, so i third that!! hahaha

          Two things.

          1. While that card would be adequate, DON'T BUY IT FROM BEST BUY! (see what I did there? all caps for emphasis!) Buy from an e-tailer and you'll save a decent amount of money.

          2. Like everyone else in this thread has said already, go for a 5770 instead. It is a lot faster than that card, runs cooler, uses less electricity and has a lot more features. (and I'm not just saying that because I love the one that I just put into my machine on Tuesday after my old card went tits up on me.)

                Can't believe I've become so manufacturer neutral, I was such a Nvidia guy.

                  For me it's:

                  if (nvidia cards == #1)
                  {
                  cout << "Go nVidia!" << endl;
                  }

                  if (ati cards == #1)
                  {
                  cout << "Go ATI!" << endl;
                  }

                  else
                  {
                  cout << "Becoming wracked with indecision..." << endl;
                  }

                    So when you say cooler do you mean temperature cooler or The Fonz cooler?

                      Re: Graphics card question...

                      Actually, just a side thought, but when are you planning to build this summer?
                      I have a feeling that if it is mid to late summer, by that time the 5850 will have dropped to about the same price as the cards above, especially if they put out a 5890 to compete with the new Nvidia cards. Lots of people think ATI will, just like the 4890 they did last year.
                      So don't get too mind set on 1 card if you are more than 2.5-3 + months away from building.

                          I was going to say former (cooler temp), but both would work. :p
