For anyone looking to pick up a new sound card to help blow your mind with Bad Company 2, Newegg has it the cheapest I think I've ever seen it:

I alternate between using 2.1 Logitech THX speakers (Z-2300) or Sennheiser HD-555 headphones.

Do you think I'd see a significant improvement over my current Sound Blaster 2 Audigy ZS Gamer LE (that's a mouthful)?

Does the X-Fi XtremeGamer have hardware acceleration?

Would it be worth going to the AuzenTech AZT-FORTE X-Fi Forte 7.1 instead? At twice the price?

Yes, I'm pretty sure X-fi has hardware acceleration
Not sure about the AuzenTech, so you might want to check out some reviews from tech sites.

I also just started alternating between speakers and headsets. Just plugged in a cheap $2 splitter from Radioshack and now I can listen to both at the same time and don't have to mess with any settings in windows.

I also alternate between headphones and speakers. The X-Fi has hardware acceleration and also supports surround sound at 7.1 levels (My speakers are a 7.1 system). Like bamboo, I also have my setup on a splitter and I simply use the SB control panel to switch back and forth between headphones and 7.1 settings. Takes about 5 seconds.

My splitter causes bluescreens and all sorts of crashes.

Jeepo, this is what I use and it can't cause bluescreen

And it lets me play my speakers and headphones at the same time. If I don't want the speakers running, I just hit the off button on it. That way don't mess with a control panel or anything.

              LOL

When you purchase a dedicated sound card, you are getting hardware acceleration!
