  • How Good is This Headset?

    Plantronics GameCom 367 Headset (NewEgg)

Is the above headset any good?

I'm looking to buy and thus give away my current analog mic to my brother. Figure I kill two birds with one purchase as I've wanted a headset for years now, but it's always been bottom of the list.

I guess you guys can suggest another pair if you feel it's better. My absolute limit is $30 (including shipping).

Don't know a thing about it.

I had this cheapo Altec Lansing set for the better part of 3 years and it was stellar. It's crappy price if you buy through that reseller on buy.com, but you can probably get a decent price from google.

Should be, all the current and old plantronics stuff I have used has been excellent fidelity for the pricepoints. The mics are notably good. Only negative is plantronics doesn't put a lot of work into strain-reliefing their cables, so they are prone to crush and tug damage like most other makes.

For $30 it probably is the best at that price.

Sennhieser PC-61's are excellent other wise.

I've been using a Plantronics DSP 500 for a few years now and have been extremely pleased with the quality, both physical and audio. I don't know about that model, but I highly recommend the brand for gaming. It's obviously not audiophile quality, but fantastic for computer use. When I first got it, a lot of people commented on how clear the mic was. Now, I think a lot of other companies have caught up in terms of mic quality, so you might not see a huge difference, but it's a great mic on mine. I liked mine so much that when I saw them go on clearance for $50 a while back, I bought two more, one for my son, and one as a backup: http://www.plantronics.com/north_ame...ucts/clearance

I use a Plantronics headset which when combined with the previous set (had the cord pulled out on accident) the two pairs have covered the last 6 years of gaming with no troubles and decent sound quality. I don't know my model but it looks comparable and was priced around 40$ retail off the shelf.

I bought my Plantronics GameCom 777 about 6 months ago and love it. I looked at the 377 and 367 for a while and then found the 777 for $60 on zipzoomfly.com, newegg and most others were charging $100 at the time.

I'm not sure if there is much difference between the 3 except for the USB dongle and the open/closed ear deal but I can tell you the 777 is nice. Nice build quality, good sound and comfort.

Like Glory said, they could have worked some sort of shock absorber into the cable. The volume control hangs at a funny height, and I find snagging on my desk every once in a while. I wish they would have put them up on the headset somewhere. I've been thinking about trying to relocate it somehow for the past few days, but I don't want to ruin them.

All right, threw down $21.24 on it by ordering from CostCentral (comparison shopped through Google). Thanks for the feedback guys! (It's still not letting me hand out rep >.>)

Good deal, you should be very happy with it for that price.

Re: How Good is This Headset?

Just got the headset via FedEx. Plastic package was a pain to open by hand. I can tell now why some people complain about the "cheapness" of this particular headset. It seems to use some pretty hollow plastic. The earcup joints are also plastic, but it's inflexible, so I can see the potential for someone breaking their phones at these joints. The handband is another issue. There doesn't seem to a strong enough plastic at where the band adjustment and bend meet. Plantronics should have beefed that area a bit more with structured plastic of some sort. The rubbery cable doesn't seem as sturdy as the hardended rubber that Sennheiser uses on their cables. It is good to see stress relief at the wire joints to the inline controls and earcups. And their huge which seems to belie their potentially fragileness.

There's one good thing: the earcups are just large enough as to not crimp my big ears. :)

Other than that, if I'm careful with these they could live on for several years. Going to hop on TG TS to see how well the mic works out.

Re: How Good is This Headset?

Just saw this and I thought I'd chime in on my 377s. Never got to use the headset so can't really comment on that but while the headphones themselves were pretty good, the headband broke on one side after about a year of daily use, making them impossible to wear. Everything still worked fine though (Partially because the cable on the inside is covered just as thickly as the cable on the outside and didn't break).

Earcups were really nice after having ones that were so small it hurt after a while on a cheapo pair of Sennheiser HD200's.

Being a little order and more aware of the chrome dome I am growing, I picked up these Klipsch earphones for $59. They were replacing a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and they sound great.

Ah, the S4's. Great audiophile grade budget canalphones. I wasn't looking for a great headphone as I've got some good stuff already. Just needed a decent pair that combined a mic. I do wish these GameComs used some stronger plastic. They seem to pale in comparison to the sturdiness of my Senn HD201s (also $21).

Oh well, only time will tell how long this headset will last me.

The sound quality and mic do seem to be a notch or two better than my HD201's. In particular, I believe the phones might not even has a 20 ohm resistance (perhaps 18 only - since they are louder than my HD201s).

I have the Sennheiser 151 , highly reccommended, incredible sound and top quality mic. The foam around your ears may be a bit uncomfortable for the first month or so, but after it works in your golden.

Yeah, I skipped over that headset initially since everything pointed out that was the previous generation GameCom headset and that comfort wise, it crimped bigger ears (it was more of a on-the-ear set instead of around-the-ear). It also was going for $15 a few weeks ago with free shipping. At $20, it's still not a bad deal.
