  • Catalyst 10.5 out

The new ATI driver suite is out. Apparently these work with the 5830. There are some fixes for BFBC2.

*EDIT* I just finished installing these and my 2D clocks have increased to 400/1300. I'm idling 10 degrees higher. I'm thinking about going back to 10.4.

My 5850 idles high as it is. This is not for me.

Hmm, will test this when I get home. Hopefully my idle temp doesn't shoot up to 46 C... Some are reporting higher core and memory clocks after going to 10.5 and a 10 C higher idle temp.

(Have a HD5830 running on 10.2a right now.)

Since my games all run incredibly well on my 5830 with the older drivers, I'm scared to "upgrade." I'll probably just stick with what works.

Gonna install them now. I'll report back if I'm successful or run into any quirks. :D

            Edit:

Just installed. The only thing weird that happened was the driver crashed/shut down and failed to load right after I installed it (resolution got reset to 1680 x 1080). I rebooted and it seems to be all working just fine. Going to load up a quick game of BC2 to make a short gaming run test.

            Edit 2:

Spent 15 minutes on the TG Hardcore BC2 server. Map loading literally takes less than 5 seconds. I click join, seconds later, I'm in. I can say the black screen I usually get after quitting any full-screen game is fixed. No more app crash error from Windows or black screen after quitting BC2.

War.monger, go ahead and install 10.5. I'm fairly confident it's safe now.

You might have to use the command line installer to get the drivers installed. Seems the installer crashes right after install due to outdated VB files used to package the installer and newer VB runtime files on some user systems (according to several people over at OCN).

Here's a quick guide on how to use the command line to install the drivers.

              Re: Catalyst 10.5 out

10.5 works wonders for the 57xx line and BC2, at least with map loading. I am down from 15-20 seconds to about 4-5. At last! I can be apart of the opening rush, instead of the 'spawn when this caps' guy.

After seeing your positive review, I definitely will! Better hang on to my old driver files just in case. Thanks for testing it out. :)

My maps were loading slower then 10.4 after installing the initial 10.5 drivers. Installed the hotfix and maps are back to loading fast.
