  • ISO standard for condoms

I always thought of the ISO as being a place to buy standards for computer hardware and software, but apparently they handle other kinds of "hardware", including medical apparatus. A friend linked this article about how the ISO standard for condoms isn't working out so well for India:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6161691.stm

I googled around and found the standard, ISO 4074:2002, available here:

    http://www.iso.org/iso/catalogue_det...csnumber=27418

Here's an interesting article on how the products are tested:

The conclusion of all this scientific endeavour is that about 60% of Indian men have penises which are between three and five centimetres ...
      3 - 5 cm is 1.2 - 2.0 inches.

I wonder if there's a certification lab in the US where you can get measured, so you can hang the certificate up to "show off"? Imagine popping that out to show a prospective bed mate! :p

I'd like to know the details of the procedure used in India.

            The actual quote is:

about 60% of Indian men have penises which are between three and five centimetres shorter than international standards used in condom manufacture.

                Funny you should mention...

I see you're in the 12th best-hung state, though it appears that your city doesn't have much to brag about. We can also conclude that not *everything* is bigger in Texas. And while you might want a certificate, ladies (or gentlemen of the appropriate persuasion -- let's not be discriminatory here) looking for a wider selection (pun only somewhat intended) should be making their travel plans for Mardi Gras.

All this with a caveat that, while size matters, it's certainly not the only thing that does.

Cing, you should inform Condomania as soon as possible, so they can update their records :)

The hell?! They're 4 inches longer across the state line in Indiana?!?!

Err, that's the city's rank in the charts, not average measurement.

Ah well, still, across the city line then. That's still surprising.

My point is, there's no 4" difference to be surprised at. Chicago is 9th on the top-20 list, Indianapolis is 13th. The difference is much more likely to be somewhere in the second decimal place range.
