  • Firefox 4 Beta 1 now available for download

I'm out of town still so can't post much, but thought this was worth it:

Firefox 4 Beta 1 now available for download

    Also see:

    Edit:
Also, you are going to want to see this video:

it is a bit long, but worth it to explain why things are changing. You can change them back, but when you hear them explain it, it makes sense.

Posting different articles so you can see comments there.

I will be waiting on a PortableApps version as usual before I try it so I don't accidently mess up my current install. :icon_lol:

I'm going to wait until a version 1.0 releases. Don't want it corrupting my 3.x install.

It's a side-by-side install, so no issues with keeping 3.x as well.

I really like the new look, but there seems to be a few usability problems. There are no max/min/close buttons on the right, so closing pop-ups--like google mail attachment viewer--is a chore. Also, it doesn't seem to play nice with Win7 x64's taskbar when it is set to audio-hide.

                Guess what just came out:

Firefox 4 Beta 2 is out, now with App Tabs and tabs on top for Mac

And they already have the portable apps version:
Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 4.0 Beta 2 and Gecko Layout Engine Test Versions

I'm trying to think of any uses I would have for the Apps Tabs feature. I was thinking maybe Gmail, but I can just click on the bookmark just as easy as the app tab.

Re: Firefox 4 Beta 1 now available for download

I'm waiting for a full version. The App Tabs in Beta 2 Pre 2 are not persistent so when I closed the browser and reopened, those tabs became normal tabs again. I'd much rather they be persistent than not.

So, is Firefox faster than Chrome? Given that both have the exact same connection.

I use both for different things. I have to say FF 3 was slow for me, but DAMN 4 seems quick. I am going to say that yeah, it very well could be. But that's just a "guess".........

Here is the new beta3 portable apps version:
                            http://portableapps.com/apps/interne..._portable/test

Just install it to like your desktop and play with it for a while to see if you think it's faster.
When your done, just delete the folder from your desktop. Super easy.

Re: Firefox 4 Beta 1 now available for download

Just for a quick update, I had a few mins and got the portable version (which might be a bit slower than the full version), but TG is way faster than on my normal old install. Part of that might be add-on (I am an add-on whore :D), but I'm liking it so far. Very different, and will take some getting used to.

Some of the crazy bits I noticed right away is a bunch of the stuff I have been running add-ons for, they put them in by default in the new 4.0
For instance, I have an app that takes all the buttons like File, Edit, View, History, etc., and instead of them being strung out along the top, lets you show only the ones you want and the rest are in a single button that drops down when you want to use the others.
The new version has a bright orange button that says Firefox, and does exactly what my add-on does. Makes for a very neat and clean toolbar up top.

For those that don't remember my crazy toolbar, here it is currently:

And right now it is kind of screwed up. I haven't taken the time to get it right since my HD crash and reinstall. I figured when I get an SSD and do a reinstall, I'll get around to it.
