  • Bad Spyware problem resulting in Explorer.exe crashing

After a series of bad spyware due to downloading a game for my nephew from a bad website that was nothing more than a spyware installing tool I had a right bugger of a job clearing it all off. When I finalyl succeeded I began to notice that when running fullscreen applications or on launch of windows explorer.exe fails on Windows 7. Now I followed several websites advertising the fix, one suggestted copy&pasta explorer.exe from the windows folwer into system32 and aparently it fixed several peoples but not my own.

I was wondering if anybody has experienced any trouble with explorer.exe failing and needing to be restarted as it can be very frustrating.

Try this as a fix as I've done this before for this same incident on Vista:

Delete explorer.exe. Take out your Windows 7 DVD or the OS DVD supplied by the PC's manufacturer and copy the explorer.exe file from the DVD back to the computer. That should resolve the issue as I'm assuming both explorer.exe files on the computer had been corrupted/infected.

Afterwards, disconnect from the internet and run another full virus scan (be sure to scan archives as well).
