  • Americans Observing 9/11 By Trying Not To Masturbate

A measure of a freedom (civil liberties) within a society is the ability to engage in parody of official narratives and events. So this bit from The Onion speaks to the freedoms that remain within the USA.

It is also curious as an example of the role of humour in tragedies. I doubt this is the first instance of a media company using 9/11 as a subject for humour, but it is the first one that I have come across.

I have a related collection of images, culture jams, that poke fun at 9/11 that circulated via e-mail in the weeks immediately following 9/11.

Has anyone seen a similar instance of 9/11 humour on network/broadcast TV?
