Are you talking about UNESCO's World Heritage program?

no during clintons admin..he figured an outside source could do a better job at keeping the parks clean and less political..so he signed the control over to the UN

That seems... well, ridiculous. Anyone have any links to confirm that? I can't find anything about it.

Sorry if this is a hijack, but your statement about the parks just came out of left field.

              Re: UN wants the internet

You know, I was about to dismiss Trooper as a right wing kook, but a quick google shows......he's right!

Most of the sites that reference it are the far right kooks, the US Soverignty lobbyists, and the Anti-Globalization zealots...but the 1972 World Heritage treaty signed between the US and the UN designates certain National Parks as World Heritage sites.

The whole thing got really rolling under Clinton, apparently.

Huh. Just because they are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't right.

                Re: UN wants the internet

Do a google search for "un control state parks" and you get a bunch of links.

Most of it seems to be a whole bunch of radical "OMG the UN is taking us [email protected]!!!" sites, not something I take very seriously.

By the way, Clinton didn't start this. The US signed the UN World Heritage Treat in 1972, and its purpose is to protect and preserve world monuments, cultural and historical sites.

IIRC I think the internet was invented by CERN.

okay so i was half right...but clinton helped....the internet was developed with the creation of ARPAnet...the Department of defence wanted to help labs stop researching the same stuff, they connected them together and it kinda of developed from there

                      Re: UN wants the internet

Great, so instead of having a bunch of domestic technologically incompetant and overpaid mouthpieces dictating Internet regulations, we now want to transfer it over to a bunch of international technologically incompetant and overpaid mouthpieces who have a long history of being corrupt and completely useless.

Well, at least if this happens, we may not have to worry about IP6 hitting the mainstream until 2200.

Hey it's fair game as long as we're spouting off silly partisan rhetoric.

If the world wants control of the internet, they'll get it, with the consent of the US or without it. It has nothing to do with where the internet started or who invented it; the internet is only an agreement, not a physical thing a single entity can posess. When a growing majority disagree with the leadership in place, they'll agree to disagree with that leadership, and form their own internet- something that's a lot easier than it might sound. Just slide their own DNS servers into place and they're all set.
