    Re: Porn ending Sex?

Interesting stuff. I'd rather have the freedom for people to do what they want in their private lives then it being banned (if its consentual). Although I never really cared for the intermingling of torture and sex, that is something I could do without.

I don't think mass censorship programs of porn and a return to a victorian life would be any better though. Cover up those piano legs mister!

edit: this is also an interesting read and is quoted in the article. (tries to come up with an answer to why past and present politcal systems fail, and why liberal democracies might be the final solution to human government (or not).

The article makes a lot of good points. It's an interesting read.

I'd be interested in what the author would have to say about the increase of major depressive disorder and the increased report of a "lack of sexual desire" leading to these "asexuals". It's all probably a big circle anyhow, but it'd be interesting to break down the correlations.

One of the most poorly written articles I've seen so far this week. Author makes repeated claims about various trends over time without referencing anything from the pre-porn past.

In short, this article doesn't pass the laugh test. Sorry.

Agreed, there was a few times while reading it when it would have been nice if he had links to these studies. It's kind of hard to make a comparision without giving specific examples throughout history.

Good call. I pretty much lost interest when he made a connection between women wanting to look like porn stars. Girls go on and on about actresses and super-models. I doubt most the girls I hang out with could even name another porn star besides Jenna Jameson (I don't think there's a person on earth who doesn't know that name).

            Then there's this:
In other words, rape has been normalized, a trend which is reflected in ever more lenient prosecution and sentencing procedures.
Evidence? Of course not. I mean forget about the sex offenders database and all that worthless stuff, some porn shows rape: so everyone thinks it ok.

            Welcome to fantasy land.

Secondly, pornography has made sex more violent.
The average movie contained 18 scenes, 20 percent of which contained violence and 30 percent of which contained "acts of degradation."
I would put ten to one odds they considered spanking and hair pulling "violence." And I'd love to see their definition of "acts of degredation." Futher, where's the link between violent porn and violence? Where are the figures about women (and men, they do the whole BDSM thing too) going to the hospital with broken bones and abrasions from roughh sex)? I'm not seeing it. Probably because it there's no valid link to begin with.

Start with a conclusion, and cut out what proves you wrong: great reporting. This should be on Fox. I could pick this apart some more, but it's not really worth the effort.

heh, the vaginal specialist probably has that title because he is a specialist at preforming MALE TO FEMALE SEX CHANGES. But of course, why mention that fact. Fun article, this would make an old friend on mine happy to read... She is a very, very vocal opponent to porn and uses the same baseless arguments as this guy...

                  Re: Porn ending Sex?

Nevertheless I have to say that this generation is quite...deprived of sexual fufillment. No not as in there is none for them, I would never argue that, oh god there is too much. The problem just that. Sex is losing value, and with it so are long lasting relationships. More and more people go to prom in same-sex limos with no dates, "hook-up" with just about everyone; attaching no value to the feelings of love but rather simply those of lust, and view incredible varieties of pornography on a daily basis.

Many people wonder why this generation doesn't value simple sexual acts, well it's because frequent porn use has made regular sex literally "boring". Sad, but true. By not being able to value the passionate kiss but instead the violent intercourse, love has no time to prosper and sex is no longer the ultimate act of love but rather the backseat passenger to sexual fufillment.

As a guy I knew once told me, as it is mearly a QFT as it can summarize a majority of today's male population, "If you *** on her **** and you still feel something, maybe you should consider going out with her."

I wish I wasn't being serious, I especially wish I was embellishing it to make it support my argument more, but that line is accurate to the word and has never left my head because I was the only 15 year old at the time, hell in what felt like the world, who believed that it was possible to get into a long lasting relationship filled with love. High school sucked and made me almost believe it, but three years later I'm triumphant by having a girlfriend for 9 months now, and still being able to abstain because our love for one another taught us that sexual intercourse is not a neccesity, it's an option. Everything else however...well it sure as hell isn't an empty sexual relationship if you catch my drift. But I still can only think of how god damn good it feels to love someone for non-sexual characteristics, they are not only more numerous but grow with every passing day. Yet... I'm the only one I know in real life who has this wonderful situation.

                  On another note,

There was a good wired article a while back about how internet porn had more addictive properties than crack.

                  http://www.wired.com/news/technology...,65772,00.html

Now at least you can rely on them for considerable back up material.

                    Re: Porn ending Sex?

Hmm. I had a little trouble following your thread there Zephyr. Pron or no pron, what you will seldom read is people saying things like "my wife and I watch porn together with some regularity and let me tell you I enjoy frequent, freaky, toe-curling nasty sex more often than should be legal".

Now I'm not saying that my wife and I watch internet porn, I'm just saying that I have it on good account that internet porn....serves a purpose and based on my experience that article is complete <censored so the admins don't have to>

                      Re: Porn ending Sex?

Even with all that: where's the corelation from "Porn is trivializing sex?" The answer is: get rid of porn and we'll all go back to "Leave it to Beaver" town? No way.

As with any issue, there are multiple factors involved. Porn probably does have a noticable influence in this area, but it's probably a lot less than people think.

Maybe I'm just some country hick, but I tend to have less respect towards people (both male and female) who seem only interested in the sexual aspects of a relationship. These people also tend to have a social stigmata of being loose and untrustworthy people.

                          Re: Porn ending Sex?

What I think it comes down to is an unsubstantiated, nebulous belief that sex was somehow better and more meaningful in the "good old day's" when sexuality was repressed and porn wasn't mainstream. I'm not going to go around waving my arms and generalizing everyone born within a arbitrary 20 year interval, but what I will say is I agree with Cing 110%.

I will add that I do feel sorry for couples who think that porn sex is the correct way to make love. If folks are using these videos as instructional material then I do agree: good sex is doomed. It's like using musicals as the basis for day-to-day conversation.

EDIT: Okay, so it was leejo I agree with. Can you ever forgive me you two?
