  • Must-see comedies

My turn to start a movie thread. Since I am a fan of comedies, I am looking for people's recommendations on must-see comedies. To be specific, I want comedies which make you laugh alot, not comedies like Forrest Gump. (someone can feel free to jump in with the correct terms here)

I'll start with a short list off the top of my head...

    The Monty Python movies
    Airplane
    Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

It's not a movie, but the entire British version of The Office makes me pee my pants every time I watch it. The American version is watered down and more obvious and not as funny, but still OK.

    Movies?

O, Brother Where Art Though? (actually most Coen brothers movies)
    Team America
Top Secret <-- very much in the same style of the Airplane movies
    Kentucky Fried Movie
    Beatnik

Ah yes! I watched the whole thing...
David Brent (with a HUGE smile on his face) talks to his employees:
"Well, there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that Neil will be taking over both branches, and some of you will lose your jobs. Those of you who are kept on will have to relocate to Swindon, if you wanna stay. I know, gutting. On a more positive note, the good news is, I've been promoted, so... every cloud. You're still thinking about the bad news aren't you?"

                    Listing things not yet mentioned:

                    Non Stop Laughter
                    Arsenic and Old Lace

Stuff I find very funny but the movies are not solely about comedy...

A pale imitation. The original French The Tall Blonde Man With One Red Shoe and it's sequel Return of the Tall Blonde, annual favorites at MIT when I went there in the 80's, are far superior.

Anything by Mel Brooks is good. My favorite is probably Blazing Saddles, esp. the part where the Governor (played by Brooks) tells his cronies "Men, we've got to protect our phoney-balogna jobs!"

Iliana: "You're a great friend but if we're ever chased by zombies I'm tripping you."

I watched 'The Man Who Knew Too Little' last night and I could not stop laughing.

That is a really unusual movie but it is pretty funny.

Dumb and Dumber makes me roll no matter how many times I've seen it.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a classic
Finding Nemo (yes, I have a three year old and I like shiny things)
                              Raw (Eddie Murphy)
                              Weird Science
                              Ferris Buellers Day Off
                              Better Off Dead
                              Fletch

                              ....you'd think I haven't seen a movie in 20 yrs...heh.

edit: couple repeats there, sry Mantis.
