What did I say? I just thought some folks who like to quote Orwell's doublespeak lines might like to know what he had to say about people who work against a war effort and pacifism as a social phenomenon. What?:icon19:
I'd just like to point out that this essay is less univerally relevant than 1984 or "Politics and the English Language" as it deals directly with contemporary threats and politics of the time. You might have some dificulty applying his commentary to say, the War in Iraq, as the enemy force is not Fascism, and the war opposition is not necessarily born from pacifism.
Oh I think Orwell's words stand just fine on their own. Folks can draw their own conclusions about how relevant they are to today's conflicts and today's crowd who seek to undermine their nation's war efforts.
I'm still trying to decide if an orange mocha frappucino is a good thing, or a bad thing.
Earth to Mateo: It's a Zoolander reference.
- And the way Hansel combs his hair.
- Or, like, doesn't. It's like, "ex-squeeze" me, but have you ever heard of styling gel?
I'm sure Hansel's heard of styling gel. He's a male model.
Earth to Brint. I was making a joke.
Earth to Meekus. Duh, okay? I knew that.
Earth to Brint. I'm not so sure you did...'cause you were all, "I'm sure he's heard of styling gel"...like you didn't know it was a joke.
I knew it was a joke, Meekus. I just didn't get it right away.
- Earth to Brint...
- Would you guys stop it already! Did you ever think that maybe there's more to life...than being really, really, ridiculously good-looking? Maybe we should be doing something more meaningful with our lives. Like helping people.
Uh, Derek, what people?
I don't know. People who need help.
You know what could really help you sort through these important issues?
