Should hear the latest one.. Telemarketer called doing some sort of employment survey and Tom pretends to be in the porn industry and gets the female telemarketer to play along and says she was in the porn industry or something.

Then he calls the number back a day or two later as Dr. Thomas Mabe and asks for the telemarketer... She's not there, and since the good doctor said it was urgent, he gets her home phone number.

Then, two wekks later he calls up as Tom from Quality and says that they can't have their agents saying that stuff and that the girl just shouldn't come to work any more.. She just says, "Ok!"

In other words...he just succeeded in getting someone fired, for no good reason except that it was funny to him. And you all laughed at this.

              ...

              Right...

                Are you sure?

Seriously, my wife did the telemarketing thing for a while. This was in the early nineties and she made $16 an hour plus commission. She hated it and quit after only a few months. It's a foul job and, for the most part, only foul people make it anything more than a part time/temporary gig. And it's even worse now that telemarketers are violating federal law every time they call most homes...

                Right...
                Are you a telemarketer?

Anyway, he didn't get someone fired, he convinced someone that she was fired. Her job was still there, she was just too stupid to check.

As I recall, Keres did telemarketing for awhile. Or atleast something very similar to it.

The whole reason it's funny is because he's not doing anything worse than what they're doing (deception a la YOU'VE JUST WON....).

I did telephone surveys for 6 months and it was the worst job I've ever had. It paid the most out of all the jobs I've had thus far, but it was hardly worth the money. People yelling and cursing at you, just acting like complete jackasses. I did have the best productivity there for four out of the six months I was there, but I also worked the whole time I was on the clock unlike the rest of my coworkers (plus, I have a really cute voice). But just remember, the next time you get a crappy survey call there could be a poor teenager saving up for her college education on the other end.

Yeah, but we never have a chance to get a word in and ask if they want to make more money by being a mule. :(
