  • What!?

I was watching Monty Python on PBS tonight - just now - and there was a VIEWER DISCRETION WARNING!

I'm going to need to put a VISITOR DISCRETION WARNING on my front foor or something.. this is CRAZY.

M: Ah. I'd like to have an argument, please.
R: Certainly sir. Have you been here before?
M: No, I haven't, this is my first time.

You mean the flying circus? There's nudity in a few of those episodes.

          Re: What!?

          Two things:
1.)Monty Python regularly had objectionable material in their sketches. The whole castle scene with all the women in Holy Grail, the fat guy exploding in Meaning of Life, and god help you with Flying Circus.
2.)PBS has an outstanding mandate that all of their programming is to be shown unedited and in full form, so they wont cut that stuff out. If you're 16-110, a fat guy exploding cause he ate a dinner mint might be funny, but for a 4 year old, it might become a nightmare. Better to have the warning than have themselves be sued because some parent let their kid watch it and now the kid is in therapy because he's afraid of exploding whenever he eats something.

Considering most days, the daily news have plenty of objectionable content and no warnings, I concur.

Id waaaaay rather have a warning than censorship...it allows ME to decide what i and my family see rather than the government or a TV station, or whoever the hell runs the place that puts ratings on stuff...

And why is a boobie rated R but a guy dying can be in a disney movie? Dont babies see boobies all the time? Are they really that bad? ....I dont think so ;)

Yeah, I still don't understand why we can see people blowing each other's brains out on television every night, but we can't see a little T&A.

Obviously nudity is much worse than graphic violence... :row__681:

Ah but the porn industry would surely not be happy to see T&A on normal television, otherwise why would Americans pay for the adult channels/late night cable? People want what is forbidden, so the higher you set the bar the more money you can charge to get curious people to go lower. Plus you only have to show some tits of a famous actress in a film to get maybe 10% of the potential viewers to go see it? Way easier than getting them to agree to be filmed having sex.

                      Marketing. Simply beautiful.

However violence gets everywhere because its a great way of filling up what would otherwise be boring space. Need to fill 5 minutes in a TV program? Insert a firefight. Desensitize the population to it and you can always add more.
