Re: Will Smith: Hitler was a good person!

This begs the typically sandbox question: can you be evil and a good person at the same time? Really, what defines a "good person"? Is it their accomplishments, their accolades, the way they treat other people face to face, or the way they treat humanity in general? Cause if you take an unbiased look at Hitler, yes, he was a genocidal megalomaniac, but all accounts show that he was very charming, polite and treated his guests with high regard. All of the people he killed were nameless, faceless people to him who may as well have not existed. So I'm sure to people who knew him on a social level, he might have very well been a "good person", but overall, he committed atrocities the likes of which we hope the world will never see again.

This isnt to say that Will Smith is correct in saying he was a good person (which he may or may not have been directly quoted as saying, we all know how the media likes to make words sound a certain way). But his reasoning into the mind of Hitler is probably absolutely accurate. I dont think he woke up and said to himself "i'm going to go kill millions of people and harm millions of others, all while engaging my country in one of the most destructive wars in history, just because it seems like something fun and something that everyone else is going to hate me for." He did what he thought was right, and WS is correct in his assertion that his actions were the result of a twisted and flawed mind.

Everyone here has something in the deep dark pits of their mind that they think is, or should be, right but is completely wrong or socially unacceptable. The difference is that none of us runs a country at free will, so we cant act on those secret flaws. But he was, and he did. Does that make him bad? No. It makes his actions and ideals bad. Blame the people that taught him to be that way if you're going to blame him as well, they are just as much at fault for planting the seeds of hatred and evil that brought it all about.

Think objectively before you make wildly sweeping statements.

I've given it some thought and I still think Hitler was a muppet.

Will Smith is a scientologist and scientologists say crazy things. They also have some pretty crazy theories about people. (All that stuff about body thetans is pertinent here. I take it a scientologist would hypothesize that the body thetans attached to Hitler's body is the main cause of his behavior.) So is this really that surprising?

PS. 'Begs the question' does not mean "bring up the question." Begging the question is a type of common fallacy of reasoning--that of assuming what you are trying to prove is true.

I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good'. Stuff like that just needs reprogramming.
I take it reprogramming consists in visiting your local church of scientology, reading dianetics, getting audited and e-metered, and having your body thetans removed.

Well ignoring the "sweeping statement" that "everyone" has something they think is, or should be right, but is completely wrong.

The difference between essentially "good" and "evil" person is what the "good" person realizes that their thoughts are wrong and should not be followed through on. An "evil" person may not know that what they want to do is wrong, but they realize that it's illegal or socially unacceptable, but still follow through with it.

I don't think anyone would argue that child molesters are "evil" to do that to little children, but in their minds there is nothing wrong with what they are doing, just because they hold back their urges/thoughts around other people doesn't make them "good" person.

OK Hitler didn't wake up thinking that he was going to do something "evil" today, but that doesn't change what he had done. Maybe I'm not as open minded as I thought I was, but in no way can I in any way consider Hitler to be a good person.

At least Hitler didnt pretend to be a "good" person, like so many of the pukes who lead the world today. He wasnt a wolf in sheep's clothing, he was just a straight up wolf. These days your Bishop is probably carrying a glock and a sex-toy under his robe, while the politician who kisses his hand secretly slips his phone number into his palm... after a hard day bombing the #$%^ out of someone for God and for Country. <rolleyes>

Matter of fact, if Hitler wasnt so up-front about his ways I'd probably be eating Bratwurst right now and have a 6-foot blonde girlfriend who didnt shave her armpits. And lest I remind you America was largely on Hitler's side before the War (no one likes to hear this fact). Political Correctness, Winston Churchill, and Pearl Harbor were the only things that changed our tune.

Naziism was alive and well in the US back then, and if not that... at the very least Nazi ideals.

50 years later the US is still the same, just more politically correct (except where Arabs are concerned) :(

warning: the above post was entirely "trollistic" in nature... flame and rant at will!

Re: Will Smith: Hitler was a good person!

OHNOZ! Someone read the article spin and ran with it. Lots of someones!

Let's play the tape again: "Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'Let me do the most evil thing I can do today'.I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good'."

So far, Smith hasn't said any of the following:
                • That Smith condones what Hitler did.
                • That Smith thinks Hitler would've been his buddy.
                • That Smith approves of Socialism.
                • That Smith wants an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas.

All Smith said is that contrary to the Politically Correct Official Truthiness Council's Spawn Programming System (public schooling), Hitler wasn't a demon born in a cauldron of sulphur, pitchblende, and the heads of burning hellhounds; but a guy with astounding penaché and a twisted vision of how to make Germany a world power again.

Seriously butthurt that someone would dare speak against the Ministry of Truth (oh lawd, what's next? Will this Enemy of the State remind everyone that the Civil War was about taxation and political power, and that slavery was a mostly-ignored side issue, and that the North continued to import slaves while the Confederacy outlawed any new enslavement?) they roll this out to try to hurt the box office returns of his next film because everyone knows that Will Smith movies print money and makes everyone else look bad.

Good for Will. He's been shaking it up for years. First he comes on TV and shows black youths that it's better to have a family that's mildly conservative and successful than to be a street punk; then he becomes the official Black Sci-Fi Movie Actor Who Isn't A Token; and now he's willing to state that Hitler was doing what Hitler thought was right for Germany and was not simply a demon sent from the depths of hell to puppeteer krauts and march the rest of Europe's races into the showers.

Well, the quote comes nowhere close to the headline. Smith said that Hitler thought that he was doing 'good'. That's a far cry from saying that Hitler is a good person...

Yeah i was about to say the same thing Cingular, saying hes good and saying he thought he was doing good are totally different things.

we don't know what hitler was initially thinking so i guess no one will ever know if he was good or bad. or was doing good or bad

It sounded to me like he is a scientologist. I just saw an interview he did with Access Hollywood, mostly on I am Legend. So it must have been a fairly recent interview. And he admitted that Tom Cruise got him in to scientology. He defended Cruise and scientology pretty heavily turing the interview.
