  • France trying to pay off hostage takers?

Yesterday I caught a heard part of a news story about France smuggling a large sum of money into Iraq to try and pay off some terrorists. I couldn't catch all of it, as I was involved in another conversation with my boss. Anyone else hear anything about this?

I know that Italy is afraid that their gov't may have done that...

It's both scary and aggetating that a goverment would do this. I don't understand how they believe this solves the problem. These terrorists are now making money buy selling fear. This money can now be used for more weapons, etc. When this money runs out, they just need to find another hostage.

While I don't always agree with US tactics and policies, not giving into terrorists acts is one thing I'm fairly confident any US president will not do.

Are you sure you're not thinking about recent news that France was one of Saddam's bought and paid for cohorts?

SADDAM HUSSEIN believed he could avoid the Iraq war with a bribery strategy targeting Jacques Chirac, the President of France, according to devastating documents released last night.

Memos from Iraqi intelligence officials, recovered by American and British inspectors, show the dictator was told as early as May 2002 that France - having been granted oil contracts - would veto any American plans for war.
