  • Tanker Truck Fire

    Wednesday was an interesting day.

At around 4 PM, right after a small local rain shower that passed through the area. We noticed what was clearly smoke behind our office.. not uncommon because lightning strikes start fires frequently.. but this smoke was clearly black.. not the typical white/yellow of wood smoke.

After about 10 minutes, the news hit the local news websites that a fully loaded tanker truck was burning underneath I-75 at U.S. 301 in Ellenton, FL - less than 2 miles from behind our office.

At the time of this posting there are no fatalities, although the driver of the tanker may have been better off otherwise. If you are a praying person.. he needs it.

Currently it is very odd to see the entire volume of I-75 southbound traffic rerouted directly through downtown Bradenton. I live in downtown Bradenton right between the only two bridges used for the detour and all of the traffic must pass through what is the 2nd worst intersection in the county for congestion.
