    whats your opinion and why.

    i'll start.
I think it really doesn't matter. I don't think it should be taught until highschool because some kids might be gay to just rebel or something stupid like that, but otherwise i could honestly care less if people get married to members of the same sex. its their decision to do it, and who am i to judge them, or restrict their freedom.

for the people who will inevitably say "i don't like to see it" i will reply in advance.
    don't look then

          Re: Homosexuals

I don't exactly follow the purpose of this thread. Are you talking about gay marriage? Being gay in general? Social normalization of gay-ness as taught in schools? All of the above?

I believe California has a constitutional Amendment on the ballot this November to redefine marriage as one Man - one Woman. Think it'll pass?

all of the above. Whats your opinion on people being gay, its affect on society, its morality(god knows we need another thing to establish as right or wrong/bad good/etc), and everything else that comes along with this issue.

I hope not. I think this is an issue where people are trying to legislate morality almost out of spite. I would not support a law that made homosexuality illegal. Some people argue that marriage is sacred, but obviously we're not going to pick a denomination or religion that gets to own the patent on consecrating marriage, and there is no reason not to let atheists wed... as soon as the State got into the business of marriages, it really became a non-religious issue.

So...what's left? Gonads and strife, or deal with it and move on. The last thing I think the government needs to be concerned with is which kind of genitals someone prefers to lick.

Yeah I agree. I have maintained that a good solution would be for the state to get out of "marriages" and stick to "civil unions", but the fact is that if I'm at a party with 8 couples, one or two of whom happen to be gay and in committed relationships, what are we all going to call each other? All the straight people introduce their wives and husbands but the gays introduce their civil union partners? Of course not. We all introduce our spouses as husbands or wives.

I would greatly prefer for gay marriage to become legal by means of legislation instead of courts.

How does one "teach gay"? You are either gay or you aren't and if people don't like it then they can **** off.

A law against gay marriage is like the law against buying dildos in Texas. It's a waste of our tax dollars for our legislators to even bring it up.

A proposition for this is my next step assuming 8 passes, which I'm pretty certain it unfortunately will.

As for what to call one another, spouse, husband and/or wife all works with civil unions. Additionally, people should still "marry" one another in a church of their choice after being unified by the state if they desire so the traditional terms and understandings would still apply.

                        Re: Homosexuals

People are going to be who they are, and history has taught us that passing laws to prohibit those things which offend narrow sensibilities will eventually end in failure. The repeal of prohibition, the passage of womens suffrage, allowing the publication of pornography, desegregation and civil rights, and about a hundred other instances are examples of such. Apropos, I could care less what lifestyle people chose. Each person is entitled to the pursuit of happiness, and if they care to find that happiness in the love of someone of the same sex, hooray for them.

I was raised catholic, but my logic tells me that there are concepts in that book which need not be followed anymore. Men are no longer justified in beating women, and mankind should not be justified in discrimination or prejudice toward fellow man or woman. Archaic rhetoric holds back the advancement of enlightened society.

This is a very obtuse line of thought. You're implying that homosexuality is something that has to be taught and isnt a part of reality as a whole. Following that lineage, would you shelter your future progeny from a gay relative until they were in high school? What if that person was your brother, your sister, or your parents? Would you hide all birthday and christmas gifts from their mysterious gay relative until they were old enough to be "taught" about homosexuality in your opinion?

As for the second part, sure, i've heard of and seen things like young girls "practicing kissing" on each other. But I've never heard of ANYONE pretending to be homosexual to "rebel" against their parents or societal norms. The thought that people would do such a thing is quite, well, absurd, to say the least. I think perhaps you need to examine your understanding of people and culture.

                            Re: Homosexuals

Like many people, I was raised Christian and have been taught this is wrong. I still think it's wrong but I also think cursing is wrong and people still do that. It falls in the category of being somewhat responsible for possibly drawing someone away from their faith in God. I haven't a cite, but from what I gather this is a pretty big deal to the Big Guy.

However, I heard a gay person ask a straight person, "So I decided to be gay? When did you decide to be straight?" I do think it's entirely plausible for all them there brain wires up there to get all kinds of messed up and crossed, thus being born that way. This might be similar to being born blind, deaf, mentally challenged, or a genius (not that being gay is similar to any of these things, but I'm just saying that I believe no one chooses at birth where they are born, what they look like, and how their brain functions).

It's really not a matter of me agreeing or disagreeing with it. It's neither worth my time nor worth the energy for me to restrict any man or woman of their right to being happy.

And "Pretending" to be Homosexual? I think you mean they're being Metrosexual.
