    Re: Plane down in NYC

It was caused due to a "bird strike" the pilot was able to tell everyone before they went down to brace for impact, and he made a soft landing, and no one as far as i know was seriously injured.

I was outside getting some fresh air when i saw multiple fire trucks speed down 42nd street at a furious rate, it was a sight to see, and from what i heard operators of water taxi's helped in the situation of getting people out of rafts and out of the water to safety and everyone remained calm and there was no form of chaos on the plane.

          Check out the pilots resume:

Not sure how many other pilots would haver been able to handle a situation like this, but I'm pretty sure his skill is the only reason this is a feel good story.

pretty outstanding being a pilot for commercial airliners, starting his own company while doing it and to top it off, flying f-4's being a training instructor and Commanding Red Flag.

                    Re: Plane down in NYC

Great job by the flight crew. Working on my commercial pilots license, I have done some multicrew training. Everyone congratulates the captain (Don't get me wrong he did a GREAT job) however, that would have been near to imposable without the help of the person sitting beside him. The situation after landing would have been much worse as well if it wasn't for the flight attendants.

When something goes wrong, all of the crew on the aircraft needs to work to levels almost never expected. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link, same for a flight crew.

Still, job well done. As the ol saying goes. 'A good landing is one you can walk away from. A great landing is one after which they can use the plane again.' So, it was a good landing. (I would still classify it as great, considering the circumstances.)

Video of the landing, not sure if it can be viewed outside of the UK though.

It's incredible that everyone survived, I heard this on the breakfast news and just sat there thinking 'Wow, that must have been a seriously good pilot.'

She might, given the State's budget meltdown. (On top of the one in the greater economy.) Many Californians (like me) would move out if the right opportunity presented itself.

Agreed. And I like Hellswaters' point about the flight crew. The team did a great job. Even the passengers did a heck of a job.
