    What's wrong with it?

Supppose you do something to earn money (by any means, job, stocks, government handouts, win the lottery, whatever) and then later get sent to prison before they've mailed you your check yet. Why should they suddenly stop sending it to you?

I guess we'd be somewhat more annoyed if people in jail were still qualifying for NEW government handouts, but I don't see any problem with mailing them the handouts they qualified for before they got arrested.

Kerostatis is right, why shouldn't they get something they qualified for at the time just because there is a delay between eligibility and payment and something happened in between?

Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

I'm not really in favor of any goverment handouts and or bailouts, but if your insinuating that prisoners or convicted felons should somehow be overlooked for these benefits because of their crimes then I would be willing to debate that with you. Otherwise I see no problem with them receiving the money just like people who are not incarcerated. America has an overly judgemental mindset that if a person is a convict of any sort they are not worthy or entitled to anything, even though most Americans are guilty of something if placed under the Federal authorities microscope.

I find this sad, but in Pennsylvania there was talk about this not that long ago. In Pennsylvania there is an overdue state budget, which until recently made it impossible for most state workers to be paid. The outrage to the employees was that the inmates would be paid while yet the staff in corrections would not be paid.

Yeah, I don't see any problem with it. If they're otherwise legally eligible, folks in jail have bills to pay too. How many of these folk are actually getting the money, and how many are handing it right off to someone else to pay bills, debts, settlements, and so forth?
