  • What path should a new TG player choose?

I am about to start playing soon. I have not made a character or anything yet, but I would like to do everything with the intention of joining the TG corp. Are there any areas I should focus on? What type of character would fit in here? What would best serve the corporation?

    3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

Right IMO we need everything every type of character since we just started.. But if you want to research certain paths, just read the eve forums about Corp R&D, agent missions for BP, fighting in pvp, mining and so on :)

I say just start playing and see what you like to do. I started off thinking I was going to go combat but I started mining and really enjoyed mining and hauling so that is what I am focusing on now.

ack - there are so many roles to play and we still need all of them!

Military was looking strong but now is looking a little underpowered.
Miners... you always need more miners!
Trading seems to have a good amount now.
Production, I think we are okay here... same with research. Few so far but lots going that way.

Other than that there may be a lot of 'admin' roles coming up that are not skill specific, so it doesn't matter what your char goes into you may still help out in that role.

The main advice seems to be pick 2 areas you like that contrast and focus in those areas exclusively. It helps the corps to have such good focus (a friendly experienced CEO said we should specialise out of our a***s), but at the same time not being so focused on just one thing you get bored.

Re: What path should a new TG player choose?

I'm downloading at the minute and reading the Player Guide thingy and its going to take a while to stick, theres so much of it!!!

I'm new to MMOG games, so i'm obviously doing the 14day trial to see if I like it, hopefully if I don't get lost I can hook up with some TG people so that I can get right into this new kind of game (or will I get blown up for comming near you?). Is the TG corp thingy numbers limited or can I jump straight in with you guys as soon as I learn all the interfaces? Since i'm only trying this since it is popular with TG people i'd like to play with them or there is no point in me trying.

As a new player is there much point in me trying to design my character/ship to help TG (using the list Wulfyn posted) or just do whatever?

I'm thinking of simply doing Pirate Hunting since it is the most supported (and explained) thing to do. I'm guessing the skills/ship I need is military so is something TG needs?

          Thanks,
          A complete newbie

p.s. Any advice is welcome, PM any tips or help you can give since I want to get in there straight away so I get the full taste of EVE and not just get confused and feel stupid.

I think we already have enough guys that are Caldari. Maybe you guys should go Gallente or Amaar.

As for roles, the great thing about this game is that even with minimal skills and a little cheap ship, you can still contribute to the corp. Any frigate with a mining laser can help out during a mining op and it doesen't take that long to get a ship good enough to fight in a group.

It will take you a while to really get a feel for what each occupation entails so i suggest giving the ones that sound interesting to you a shot. Then after a while you can really make a decision and choose a job that won't get boring for you.

Also I know you lose out on time for skill advancement, but if you don't like the way your first char has gone you can always remake it - it will be quicker in the long run. This is because all your attributes do is alter the time it takes to learn a skill. So if you want combat you go high willpower and perception.

In the TEGL forum we have listed the departments available, and peole are signing up for them, so getting in there and looking will highlight where we need people.

I restarted my charachter twice before i got something i was happy with so don't worry if your first one isn't to your liking after a couple of days. It won't make much of a difference in the long run.

...but then again, you may not want to turn out like Penguin :D

Man this game is so cool. I'm just amazed at how huge the universe is and how deep the game is. It makes all other MMORPGs (I've played dozens) look like child's play.

Thanks to the help of my TG friends, my pilot, Fencer Acrux, is off to a terrific start. If you haven't tried this game, you gotta try it with teamspeak, because the help of an experienced player makes all the difference in the world. I would get advice over teamspeak before creating your character. That helped me a lot.

Re: What path should a new TG player choose?

When I signed up, I was lucky enough to ask Lokka and gunjunkie to help me build my character. They told me that when creating my character, I will be presented with 2 choices several times that determine the skill levels I would start with. They suggested that I should always select the choice that has "frigates" in it.

I did this when creating Fencer Acrux and when I started the game, I started with the "Frigates skill" at level 4 and the "Spaceship Command" skill at level 3. This really helped me when I wanted to upgrade my ship for the first time.

Since everybody will want to get a better ship asap, unless you have a better plan, I would recommend doing the same thing. You won't regret it.

Thanks again Lokka and gunjunkie! Cya in game.
