    Since 650mm arty was patched I thought i'd see if they are now worth using over 720mm since previously there DPS, DOT, Alphastike, optimal range and falloff were all worse for slightly better tracking and ROF.

    So taking a Cyclone I put together this graph using a spreadsheet created by NaughtyBoy.

    It assumes max skills and gives an interesting result.

    In this version it is guns only and shows the 650mm do indeed have greater DOT but at the ranges shown on that graph you'd be lucky to hit unless the target wasn't orbiting.

    It also shows how far behind AC's they are.

    In this image it assumes that with the fitting saved from using 650s instead of 720s you could fit heavy missile launchers instead of assault missile launchers.

    So in conclusion 650+heavy missiles give greater damage than 720+assault launchers, and even more DPS than 220 AC's since you typically use NOS to sustain your tank from taking more damage closing in on the enemy.

    But this depends on the target, the sig res shown is for a average BS size ship, against a frigate the heavy missiles have less effect so DOT drops below 720+assaults.

    This brings ships like the Cyclone more in line with the Minny "little bit of everything" philosophy. Good analysis.

      Just another quick note about which ammo to use depending on range with these setups since falloff is typically used its quite important to know where the long range ammo gives better damage than the short range ammo.

      This shows against FRIGATE sized ships:
      650mm + Heavy using Proton ammo will only have better damage at greater than 40km.
      720mm + Assault Missile using Proton beats using EMP at about 27km (perfect skills remember so range of assaults is about 42km)

      This is for BS sized (so is for cruisers to since weapons are cruiser size):
      650mm + Heavy using Proton ammo will only have better damage at greater than 30km.
      720mm + Assault Missile using Proton beats using EMP at about 27km the same as against frigates.

      It also shows that the heavy missiles carry the 650s a lot at the longer ranges.
