Ever since Cryptic got it, yes. Not as much as SW:TOS, however.

Sorry I am a Star Wars geek not Star Trek geek :)
Although as a PC Gamer subscriber, I must say it was an interesting article.

I figured as much... has a much better sound to it than the Greek Hephaestus.

Its good to see more SciFi MMOs in the works... I'm really getting burnt out on the sword & sorcery genre.

Well, we're getting closer to the release date of February 2010, so it seems a good a time as any to bump this.

So far it seems they are doing a good job on it. I for one am looking forward to at least trying it out. :)

                    Re: Star Trek Online

It sounds interesting, but I wasn't particularly impressed by the graphics in one of the trailers. They didn't look very high quality.

If I had to choose between this or SW:TOR, I'd pick Star Wars.

Yeah, I'm hoping to get into the Open Beta in January - after Champions Online I'm worried about STO so I want to try it out before buying. It's looking good so far though, there are Closed Beta gameplay videos appearing on YouTube regularly now, it looks complicated but fun!

                        Re: Star Trek Online

I've been in the beta for the last month, and the graphics most definitely look very nice, the video's aren't giving it the proper justice then.

My problem is the game is very repetitive. I've played a ton of mmo's before and understand they are all repetitive, but this one goes well beyond the worst offender of any of them. Combat is very straight-forward (could almost be called simplistic) in either the ground or space based aspects of the game. Space combat, while fun, can get to the point of tedium for some of the bigger space battles.

The story seemed okay, but it was tough to get into, maybe that's just personal bias from them using the new time line which I am not so fond of, so understand where my opinion on that topic comes from. The planets looked just incredible, but the missions are so "bleh" it's tough to get excited about them other then appreciating the well done graphics.

From what I've seen so far, this would be a good buy if it ran on the guild wars system of no monthly fees but bi-yearly expansions adding more content, on a monthly fee system this one isn't so hot compared to other products in the market right now. Another thing to consider is Cryptic only took over this license 12-16 months ago, this product almost seems rushed from my experiences. It might end up being a great Star Trek mmo game, but I am of the opinion it wont be close to that at release and it will turn into a matter of whether enough people stick with it to give them time to make it a good game. I have faith in Cryptics ability to make it a good game, but not by February.

I preordered. Look forward to this game. I enjoyed SWG quite a bit until the DEVS ruined it. Hopefully this wont be the case here.

                            Re: Star Trek Online

I just think that the graphics are too "cartoon" like so far in the videos. Maybe that will change by release, but that combined with the supposed simplistic form of combat and such might make it not worth it.

Nonetheless, I still intend to give it a try at least.

I personally Plan on giving it an try.

I am already in love with cryptic's other MMO champions online.
They are trying to stay as close to the lore of Star Trek as possible without breaking the game in terms of balance.

If i ever do subscribe. I will defiantly play as an Klingon captain more than a Federation captain.
