  • [AAR] Esamir Grind - Friday, August 8th 2014

No blow by blow this time, too tired! Quick summary: I was platoon leading on Esamir, and at our height we had a full platoon, of which an encouraging number was TG members.

My big takeaways from the night:
    • Esamir base design heavily lends itself to pop-based grind-fests. It almost never lends itself to interesting midfield fights.
    • Being effective in big fights is difficult, even with a platoon sized force, in the absence of good communication tools. Leader and prox channels were down, which meant no coordination outside the platoon, and even intersquad comms were harmed by lack of prox.
    • New resource system means that vehicles are PLENTIFUL now. Plan accordingly.
    • New resource system also means that MAX units are plentiful. Plan accordingly, and definitely make sure to pull them early and often if they fit the situation.
    • The TR really love running large Harasser and air units. Moving in open terrain is extremely dangerous. Bringing proper escorts for Sunderers in transit is now important, as is putting up sturdy defenses around them.
    • Managing an effective attack is now even more difficult. You NEED to have the perimeter locked down because the enemy will be pulling vehicles to try and knock out your Sunderers, but this eats into manpower. If you bring more people to the fight to compensate, you now open yourself up to more reinforcement spawns from the enemy as they move to 50% pop.
    • Be cautious of engaging highly defensible bases even with a substantial pop advantage. The enemy redeploys easily and things can rapidly go south and turn into a grind.

You did a great job tonight Startstiker. Not an easy situation.

Games completely broken at the moment. MAX's are just silly, take heart though:

Yeah, the nanite system is going to be in constant flux for the next month or two, I wager. Glad to see the maxes are being pulled back a bit, though TBH I'd really rather that they just stop being revivable, that's pretty much half the issue right there... their nanite cost is rarely even FELT because someone picks them right back up.

The problem really isnt the cost, IMHO. It's the regain of 50/min thats really too high. you only need to survive for about 5 minutes to chain pull most force multipliers.

Also of note is that you get that resource gain regardless of the territory you control. I know its completely hogwash and we were never giddy before about taking a base "YEAH WE GOT OUR TEAM AN EXTRA 5 VEHICLE RESOURCES EVERY 5 MINUTES WAY TO GO GUYS!", but still I think controlling territory should have some tangible impact on resource gain.

Anyway, good job starstriker. The fights were really rough for us. It was hard keeping the blueberries in the platoon through those difficult situations. Also good job to the other SLs, Garth, Ghost and Hero and whoever might;ve taken over alpha from me after I had to leave.

Keep in mind that this is only the first phase of the resource revamp. Later stages will vary the resupply amount based on the stored nanites in the nearest friendly base, which will be regenerated slowly and be under heavy strain from resupplying large fights (and eventual resource transport gameplay figures into that, etc). What the resource rate you're seeing now is is what you'd expect to see when fighting at a fully supplied base under ideal conditions. While it's got a lot of tweaking left to go (and is probably a little too unrestrictive at the moment), keep in mind that it's not the fully revamped system by any means.

            Oh, I forgot another takeaway:

Allowing Ghostshooter to start an armour squad will destroy the effectiveness of our infantry squads, because he runs such a great squad that all the TG guys head over there and leave the other squads full of blueberries! :P

I've been seeing a lot of new guys around, and I have some new tricks up my sleeve. Hopefully I'll be doing good work as SL until thursday when my first year of law school starts.

                      the struggle was real!

but once we switched to the VS front we really outdid ourselves. I was really surprised that we didnt lose any vehicles when we first made contact with VS armor since we were heavily outnumbered almost 3 to 1. I had the squad trade blows with the VS armor just to make them come out farther from their infantry support. Once more friendly armor started to show up, i pulled the squad back from geological survey camp across the river to nott research camp. There we regrouped repaired and rearm. Since we were still visable from the other side I had the squad move west through the amp station so that we could cross without being spotted. Once across I positioned the squad on the hills over looking the survey camp where we were able to take out most if not all of the VS armor and sundie support. I wish I was recording at the time because that flank was A-mazing.
