  • TG multi faction support, leadership, and bringing the TG way to PS2

After a discussion with Jeepo and Apohis, rather than have one faction for TG as a whole I think we should support a TG outfit in each faction. There is a problem, to combat "Empire hopping" SOE had dropped word that your account will be locked to one faction. The simplest way around this is we need people to step up for leadership of each faction. These people will be responsible for administrative task for their factions, recruitment, dealing with problems ect. They will also need to be able to lead in game, taking up the role of squad or platoon leader, and insuring the general TG player base can get the Teamplay oriented gameplay we've come to expect out of all titles TG supports. With that in mind if you are interested in a leadership role please speak you mind in this thread. None of this will be hashed out right this second. I'm hoping for beta that SOE will allow you to "empire hop" so each of us can try out each of the factions and make our choice. If not, come open beta or release you may have to multi account till you choose one. From what I've read so far SOE doesn't seem to have a problem with multiple accounts, but I'll keep an eye out on it. Finally I want to get your opinions on myself. I've taking the lead on things so far, out of excitement for the game and a desire to have it succeeded here at TG. That being said, I'm not going to run this just because I say so. I'd like the support of those interested in PS2, however if you have someone else in mind let me know.

Hmmm...leading a faction sounds an awful lot like leading an IHS. ;)

I don't anticipate a problem with 6MD embracing this game since we played the original for about 18 months. My goal will be to set up our own outfit hopefully such that it is in the same faction as the rest of TG (assuming that one is settled on).

    Just an FYI.

Thanks for stepping up to lead this. Your posts are greatly appreciated. :)

I'd potentially be up for leading/helping to lead a New Conglomerate TG group. There might well be an Irregulars Planetside 2 outfit, so I'll have to wait and see how that goes.

Not sure what the big problem with Empire Hopping is though - having one character per faction on each account would make a lot more sense IMHO.

I'm definitely going to be playing the beta (once I get a key or it goes to open status), and I think I'm going to be playing TR or possibly NC, depending on how the gameplay of each feels. I identify more with the TR's ideology and what they fight for, but if the NC's Infiltrator hits harder or is generally superior to the others, I may be lured there. That being said, I'll be willing to throw in my hat for consideration for some sort of admin position in my main faction. Actions speak louder than words of course so we'll see how beta goes.

The idea itself is sound but at this point I think a bit premature. Leaders will naturally grow into the role. Personally I can't decide between factions so it is too early to say.

In the original game, you could have multiple characters. These characters could be in different factions.

The original would have fights that lasted for hours, sometimes days, especially on a bridge or on a particular planet's dropship center. The advantage of being able to switch to another faction was if you could drop out of the fight, log in, know where every one of your own faction's stuff (AMS's (portable respawn pads + weapon terminals, etc), Lodestars (vehicle rearming and repair and transport aircraft)) etc was, then tell your own faction, and jump into a Vulture bomber or something and fly over and kill the assets. Or tell your new faction what your other character's faction was doing, where they were heading next, what they were going to cap, etc, as enhanced knowledge.

They way the old planetside did this was you had a timer lockout of several hours (4 or 6 i believe) after logging in as one faction, before you could switch to a character of a different faction.

<04:16:25> "|TG-XV| Tralic": this channel is so gay
DICE needs to make a comical boxing glove attached to a spring punch the player in the face 40% of the time they get into a helicopter or jet.

Re: TG multi faction support, leadership, and bringing the TG way to PS2

              My opinion on TG and PS2;

TG has a big teamwork battleground
TG is used to having their own big server
TG is used to having more rules than other servers based on realism/simulation (the zen of the primer) and admining strictly and fairly to the rulebook
TG is used to having a specialised server, that is the oasis in the desert of a particular style of teamwork

This mentality of "our server" run "our teamwork way" will not apply to PS2 because you cannot rent servers, its 2000 slots a server !
This means there is no chance of setting server rules. This means no hope of stopping bunnyhopping (if its possible in the game, not confirmed either way)
TG in the past has very effectively defined the mood of a server through server rules, that method is not possible with PS2
TG can have rules about personel conduct

TG has a great strength in talking teamwork, that is an underestimate, TG has a F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C strength in talking teamwork
TG will talk in the 4 ingame voip channels and the teamplayers will like TG

I would suggest getting the 'zen of the primer' conversation going early for PS2 because where TG defines the primer simulation/realism will determine how TG will fit into a massive FPS player base
I am concerned that too much emphasis on realism play will push away players and reduce TG recruitment. It seems to me that PS2 will be a genuine teamwork game, although a arcade style teamwork game like 2142

Or to put it another way I dont believe TG can bring the old style TG way to PS2 because you have zero control over the server, but TG will adapt and create a TG way that work with PS2 and then flourish in numbers

Re: TG multi faction support, leadership, and bringing the TG way to PS2

I don't think it'll be and issues Silver. TG has always been about more about teamwork and PS2 is shaping up to offer it in spades. Like you said it will be more arcady like 2142, but that statement in its self means we've done it before and I have no doubt we can do it again. I think TG has tended to focus on realism games because those games tend to require the teamwork that TG looks for. PS2 is a new deal and I think it has potential to be the next big "thing" in the FPS world. I intend to take TG into PS2 feet first. It offers loads of options for teamwork, and arcady gameplay will be adapted to and over come. We will have to find our path in the game, but this is nothing new and should be looked at with optimism.

Re: TG multi faction support, leadership, and bringing the TG way to PS2

Nice post Silver, and I would agree with you asking for focus on the primer, and disagree respectfully with john's statement "I don't think it'll be and issue". Even in TG it takes a lot of effort and coaxing to get teamplay properly going- at least to my standards. We have a lot of run'gunners in the ranks too who enjoy teamwork, but won't ever be the catalyst of it themselves.

If I am able to get into the beta, I'll definitely look for a more squadleader role, as that is what I enjoy most over various games, being the right hand of command on the ground.

On not being able to set server rules:
to me what is most important is the rules we set for ourselves, and our succes in following them. All the rest is someone else's karma and can cause at most passing frustration. Just shoot the bunnies!
