  • IHS Patches

So I'm building and up and coming IHS for PS2. I asked Ferris to do some unit patches for me in each empires colors. I just wanted to show off his fantastic work.

I like the blue and yellow one. The worst is the red and black

            Re: IHS Patches

I have another one made for something else not related to john's project, but I cant post it until Jeepo finishes his project. All this super secret photoshop work is killing me.

By the way, I dont want to kill the novelty, but if anyone else wants this kind of thing done, I can help out, just probably not very fast. The three for john were fairly simple because they were all the same design, just different color schemes. Every time I do one of these, it's done from scratch. For example, the 6th logo took me about 3 hours and it isnt quite perfect.

              Looking good Ferris,
Like you I've spent some time trying to get a patch like effect and here's what I found to be a real time saver!

              http://www.drawstitch.com/index.php/...gs_Evaluation/

You can import a vector based file like an .eps of your patch into this demo, edit the embroidery effects, colors etc. You can also import jpg/png but need to keep it simple, gradients and
other complex shapes won't often get traced well.

Once you have tweaked the file go to file/export/to image/.png where you can set a fairly high DPI. (leave off the background fabric)
Finally bring this png into photoshop overlay it under the original base image of the patch. I have found that helps fill in the colors.

It's not perfect and will sometimes make odd choices on stitch selection; you can import parts of a complicated patch one by one and recombine in PS as needed.

              Couple examples are:

                Re: IHS Patches

Interestingly enough, thats exactly what I use. The tricky part is the graphics prior to importing it. If you didnt create the vector graphics to begin with, the conversion process can be tedious, and if you dont get the slices just right, draWINGS doesnt like it too much and you get stitch panels. But this is something I've been tinkering with for a while. Another nice facet of drawings is that if you know someone who can do actual digital embroidery (the nice folks at any Lids hat store, for example), draWINGS will allow you to export the file to the correct file format for the embroidery machine. I used it to make me a nifty hat with the 6th logo on it.

                    Re: IHS Patches

Thought it looked similar, seems to be the best option for creating the stitching for patches that I have found but I will share if I come across anything easier.
