  • Upcoming patch notes

Consolidated resources are interesting and I've been waiting for a while to see how it shakes out. It's likely to need a lot of tuning, but it's exciting to see the resource revamp begin to roll out. In the short term, it's likely to mean that specialists (tankers or pilots) will be better able to stay in the game while people switching between roles will find themselves more constrained, and consumable usage might drop off a bit. It's also handy for Gathra's upcoming breaching experimentation, since it should mean not getting locked on resources as much.

Adversarial alerts should also be neat. The fact that they could conceivably occur on multiple continents at once is an interesting wrinkle, and seeing that sort of rare event could result in some very interesting alerts. I'm skeptical that it'll be possible to lock a continent this way... 75%? NOBODY holds that much in an alert where everyone participates, even if they start at the 75% mark! It's interesting that a defender can also win an alert that way, presumably locking the continent, by getting back to 35% territory, which is actually relatively easy even in a balanced alert. What I suspect the dynamic will end up being is that a faction will attempt to overwhelm a continent and snap up the last 10% territories they need to get a lock before the enemy can respond, but if they fail to pull that off the defenders will rebound in with a vengeance and it'll be everyone but the original attackers scrambling to get that tiny 35% edge, which could be pretty tense, but by the time that's in striking distance the original attacker is largely in it just to avoid losing. It'll be interesting, at any rate.

Would be interesting to see if someone could plan multiple continent alerts to try and distract and confuse the other factions into losing one alert or the other. Would be a massive undertaking... but I could definitely see someone capping a low pop continent mid-alert when everyone is distracted by the main one to try and sneak a continent capture in, and maybe even use that bonus to help pave the way for victory in the first alert.

I'm also happy to see repair guns changed to work on bounding box instead of vehicle origin, because it made repairing big vehicles (or keeping an eye out while repairing) especially difficult. Also: cruise control! ABOUT TIME!

That's great news about the alerts. After continent locking came to fruition I began to miss them as they were so few and far between and it put our rapid response harasser units out of action for days. That buff to the Walker should make us even more lethal than we already are, so watch out TR and VS scum! :D

Oh, and a bit of a public service announcement: when acquisition timer certs are refunded a lot of us are going to be sitting on a MASSIVE pile of certs. If that pile of certs ends up being bigger than 10K (or is it 16K? I can't recall), I highly recommend you spend some of that ASAP. There is a maximum certification limit to prevent hoarding, and after you exceed that regular XP will stop earning you certs.

        Re: Upcoming patch notes

I was just reading through those patch notes and I noticed:

Removed the option to toggle motion blur from settings.
Seems odd. Does this mean the game will have to be played with motion blur on?

        *EDIT*

Further down under "Known Issues" I found:

Motion Blur has been disabled. It was a factor in the input lag issue, and needs to be retooled to work correctly. We're going to gauge the demand but currently didn't have the bandwidth to add it back in for this update.
So is removing the toggle a result of this or when motion blur is fixed will there still be no way to turn it on or off?

        .... I'm confused.
It matters not what letters or numbers come before my name, I'll always be 1stMIP.

They've removed the motion blur effect from the game temporarily until they can resolve the complicating factor it has on input lag. By its very nature, motion blur effects require using data from several frames, so it makes sense that they'd kill it while trying to lock down their input lag issues.

From my own experience, getting input lag down can be a surprisingly obnoxious problem, lots of surprising places that input latency can show up.

After that long run in our harassers the other night I fell in love with the walker/started to get really good with it. Can't wait for that change!

On the other hand the spawn changes (REDUCED spawn timer if you stay in the same spot, auto-"PleaseFarmMe"-respawn) horrify me, and I really hope they don't last too long. Really sounds like the wrong direction for the game to be going to me. Redeployside definitely needs fixing but wow this is just throwing the wrong size wrench in and hoping it will fix the machine itself.

Deci nerf = :( AND the notes say they are going for an overall "reduced lethality"...what? it already takes at least 6 non-headshot hits to bring down a medic or other non-heavy, how hard do they want to make it to kill someone? Right now it's kind of between HALO and BF, sounds like they want it to be fully halo-like where only headshots really count, which is dismaying to me as well.

So uh.... servers are completely wrecked. Do not expect to be able to play today.

cant switch continents (neverending queue if your not a member for every continent)

                    squad comms constantly give out

sunderer ejector seat randomly propels people getting out into the sky and they die when they fall back down

random latency issues, when I join for the first 10 minutes my ping is usual;ly ~300

                          Re: Upcoming patch notes

Walker buff FTW. The walker is now viable against infantry (not ideal, but not useless like before), and my ability to land shots on ESF's has improved at range. Also, the improved cone of fire has made the walker a good anti-harasser weapon, the reach and continuous fire are excellent. Other stuff from the patch, didn't notice any impact on my gameplay. I'm not a resource-heavy consumer anyway.

You still have them. Previous stockpiles are respected, they just can't be raised above their new, lower caps.

Which means we're not going to have really good data on how the nanites play out for at least a few weeks when the stockpiles are all gone.
