• THE TRIFECTA PLATOON PROPOSITION- (May Need Lots of People!)

-Planetside 2 is a game of combined arms. No matter how you slice it their is always people using all three, whether that's Air, Infantry, or Armour. Witch got me thinking the other day. If you could effectively harness all three you could In theory Dominate an entire region quite well. The Key is combining all the pieces to work effectively together. Every unit would have to work off each other together and work off each other effectively.
Here Is What I Propose
-A platoon made of 4 different squads all with assigned roles to a certain task. Our goal would be to either advance our empires territory or hold a strong defense against enemy forces.
SQUAD: 1- Squad 1 would be dedicated entirely to infantry ops Ideally the squad would be filled with a good solid 12 players. These would be our base takers, and our defensive line, with the goal for them being Longevity. This squad would need to be Highly organized, and stick together as a unit, they would be the most active in base takings and Defense. In essence this would be the most important element of the platoon. TG should have no Issue with this as I've seen us come out against innumerable odds on top before.
SQUAD: 2- Squad 2 would be dedicated entirely to spawn Logistics and transportation of squad 1. Approximatley 4 to 6 people would be nesscecary These guys should be the ones to bring the sunderer's galaxies Valkyries even. Their initial goal would be to successfully get Infantry units on point and perhaps retreat to a safe distance and defend spawn logistics. If the extra manpower is needed this squad may also join in with the fray with the main squad. This squad would also be responsible for extraction if things start to get to Dicey, along with quick transportation between bases.
SQUAD: 3- This squad would be comprised primarily of Armour Units, Their Main goal would be to defend the Spawn logistics, and take on enemy armour units as well as defend against said enemy armour, 1-3 skygaurds would also support the air squad. this squad would be composed of 1-3 skygaurds , and 3 to 5 anti Armour units of said choosing. This squad could also provide covering fire for infantry advancing torwards a base as well
SQUAD: 4- This squad would have an interesting set of goals. Ideally composed of either liberators or Reavers or both their goal would be to maintain Arial dominance in a region and if nescecary support ground units or would go on arial strikes against towers, base turrets, or sunderers. Also these units would take on other aircraft in order to maintain Arial dominance.
- Ideally I have a wishlist for those I would like as SL's but I understand if they are not willing.
-Infantry (Garthra)
-Armour (Ghost Shooter)
-Air (Daelon Suzuka) (Black arrows outfit... He recently offered his outfits help to train air and so im imagining he's our best bet for the air squad right now...
So I must go to work on homework but thoughts?

-Good to have you on board Ghost... I should be making an announcement post soon when I've figured out the best day to host the event as well as figured out some good dedicated squad leads for each squad.

Re: THE TRIFECTA PLATOON PROPOSITION- (May Need Lots of People!)

I feel like the balance is off. One support squad, one armour squad, and one air squad leaves almost nobody to do the heavy lifting of taking a base, and can result in 3/4 of a platoon sitting idle when, at the time, we need boots of the ground more than anything else.

I'd propose rolling the support squad into the armour squad. The armour squad needs sunderers already and is going to be protecting the infantry sunderers, so I don't see much reason to separate them. This frees up the second squad as another infantry squad, which is where numbers are really going to help. We punch above our weight, but we'll still usually crumple under 2-1 odds. A lot of outfits claim to be able to take on three times their number, but I'm skeptical it's even possible in this game in any sort of long-term way, and suspect they've got some very specific definitions for that success.

Having separate transport squads is also just a bit of a logistical pain... you've got a 12 man Galaxy/Sunderer or 6 man Valkyrie, and they can't carry a full squad unless the pilot is part of that squad. You also lose the redeployment capacity if they're out of squad, which is very important for Valkyrie or Galaxy ops. I know ground pickups are more our style, but there's just too many situations where it gives us an important spawn option (squad wipes are a clear example, as is getting shot out the side of a Valkyrie).

^^^ Thought this already posted but oh well, The more I think about it the more I have to agree with you star. 2 Infantry squads would likely be the better options. I've also been thinking of tactics for this sort of use as well. ideas are listed below.
- If infantry is forced to move through an open feild for some reason armour could cover retreat or advance,
- General Aircraft in the area to take on libs
- Also precision strafing runs could be made on sunders
-ESF's could escort galaxies
- Armour could form a sort of triangle blockade escort for sunders as well.
:Secondary thought Seeing as the overall goal would be dominance of the regions I think it would be fun to do our best to use physical pickups as mutch as possible. Ground units sutch as infantry and armour could work to clear the pickup sight... Wishful thinking perhaps but I really would like to attempt it... Also if tactical retreats are nesscecary it may be a fun idea to have the gal hot pickup units

I sort of ran this style tonight besides the airsquad. The only thing about running this type of platoon is you cant go for big bases. I learned that when we assaulted wokuk amp

Another thing is, air and armor have sort of different needs and requirements.

If you go as mechanized infantry, you will be a little slower to move across the map.

And an air squad needs to be sometimes loosely attached to the ground forces, due to the nature of air combat.

Re: THE TRIFECTA PLATOON PROPOSITION- (May Need Lots of People!)

When I'm running with a small group of people, it's pretty common for me to see blueberries assaulting the crap out of the point/objectives, but absolutely failing to eliminate enemy assets/address enemy air/armor/etc. The opposite is also true. I think that the people on both sides of this philosophically different play style need to assess the situation and determine platoon makeup. I realize we all have predispositions, however there are nights where even 1 infantry squad is wholly unnecessary, and there are nights where we need 4, because the rest of our faction is rolling deep in armor/air. Also, the support squad in the OP is an infantry squad, in all seriousness. Even giving a couple-3 people the super-exciting job of defending the bus leaves 9 foot soldiers.

And, lastly, I'm always available to party.

I have seen trouble with dedicated transport assets due to comms limitations.

-Air combat, i realize is mutch different from armour and infantry. Thats why my plan for this would be to simply have an air squad Being in the general area of the platoon, The air squadron would also function mutch more freely as well performing ops as they wish. SL's would call in runs against enemies, and perhaps they would escort gal drops, but for the most part the SL provided he was in the general vacinity of the PL's fight could do as he wished. The other thing is that the plan would also involve a pretty significant air force a 12 man squad all with reavers would be ideal. If things got to hot they could pull behind the Armour column for support. Also enemy air tends to disengage when they see a significant enemy force unless they have a force of their own
-Also a thought with Zombie's post, While i dont run teamspeak at the moment It could be a option for helping out with comms issues of a transport squad.
-Finally I think Ill make it a habbit in my squads from now on to have someone guard the sunderer, Simply because its good practice

I really like the idea of having the Air Card in my deck. This is very different from what TG normally does as the air squad at times would feel like they aren't really working with the rest of the platoon. This is the way with air as you need to be mobile and keeping on your toes. If you just sit above the base that then infantry are attacking, if there is a big push back, you will see a ton of AA and enemy Air AA. But if you are working in the area, and only help the infantry when needed, I found this works better as the enemy is less prepared. Keep up the Good ideas RaymondScout. Wish I was able to join in on the fun.

Another thought came to mind. This is exactly the sort of thing we used to do in FNFs. We even had signup sheets, assigned squads/roles, with alternates, the whole bit.

It's up to some of you newer guys to pick up the torch now and carry on the tradition...

If one of you guys were to make an FNF signup sheet, I'm sure you would get a lot of support and participation. You can look back at some of the old signup threads for formatting and ideas.

Nothing to it but to do it. You are more capable than you probably even realize.

Good luck!
