  • Planetside 2 Story Mode Idea (Lets make a story mode)

    -So my recent dabble into writing stories about tg has got me thinking... What if We were to do our own story missions in planetside.

    -Now clearly theres going to be some questions... Namely Planetside 2 has no story mode... But it does have a story...

    -Furthermore with some digging you can also find out the reason for instantaneous vehicle spawning the reason soldiers are able to respawn ETC... This is what i use when i give the little "lore" details in my "TG Legends" stories... And i assume most people though I was making them up. :/

    -Anyways back to the point I always fancied the idea of TG squads doing open ended "missions" based on some of the stories. Things like NC soldiers spying on the vanu from behind enemy lines right before the Vanu declared there separation. Perhaps other things to like the galaxy going down, and our mobile uplinks being damaged so we cant respawn anymore, not to mention the gal could go down behind enemy lines, and our mission would be to make it back to friendly areas alive. Maybey a VIP mission were we have to transport a New Conglomerate Suit across an enemy hex on foot, the vip because he's not a soldier would have no respawns, and would be armed with only a pistol. Perhaps a mission to destroy and steal a piece of vanu tech before they can deploy it. some of the bases even tell stories we could make a last hold style defense at one of the Crashed biolabs on esamir, us being taken by surprised by the Vanu's decision to join in the war.

    The possibilities sound quite fun. Of course we would need to schedule them beforehand, and could even add multiple squads to certain missions if enough people would want to join in, assighning different squads to different parts of the mission. Perhaps a writeup of the story that we know of going into the mission along with an announcement of the event. Certain squad members could be informed of things and actions there supposed to do ahead of time that the rest of the squad doesn't know about heat of the moment, for instance if a gal pilot needs the gal to go down for stories sake he could spit out a line of " I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED FAILURE IN CONTROLS PREPARE FOR EMERGENCY DROP" "DROP DROP DROP". Everyone leaves the galaxy and now were on our own to make it back to the nearest friendly territory. Or another example one of our engineers inside an enemy base after an infil hacks a terminal discovers the secret vanu weapon, and then its up to us get to it and Get it back to a friendly lab to destroy it safely. ETC... ETC... ETC...

    ALso the missions could be open ended. We could potentially fail them and as a result on the next story based mission we could put ourselves with a natural disadvantage. The suits are mad that one of there own got killed on a escort mission. As a result on the next mission we would be subject to default kits on the class of your choosing because they "Cut our Funding" Or if we fail to destroy the Vanu weapon, the next story mission we Have to go AirLess because its an invisible ray that kills aircrafts ability to function.

    SO... The point of all this is of course to drop some of this games epic lore on everyone and also to Gage Interest in doing these "Story Mission" Style squads. If there is enough people interested id be more than happy to put together these "missions "per say. Those interested drop a name below, also comments feed back and ideas are greatly appreciated :D. Also don't think this is against the primer or breaks any rules, but in case it is officers you know what to do.

      In a previous outfit we once did a "Liberator Down" mission. Three-man crew down deep behind enemy lines. We only had their descriptions of what they could see to determine their location. We had to take a Sunderer, breach enemy lines, find them, and then bring them out. Our bus blew up as we were crossing back into friendly territory...

        ^^^ Sounds like an idea we could incorporate, we've already done missions in the past to save a max thats the last man alive and stuff when he got left behind. Things like that sound like fun and so far at least according to you guys the first "Story Mission" Of a gal crashing sounds like a good idea :D Ill get to work making this a thing.

          This sounds interesting.

          Perhaps someone should start a 'Mission Suggestions' thread and tap into the collective imagination of our membership. If there's enough interest (and suggestions) we could start a Monday's Mission Op.

            ...Sounds like a good idea :) i think ill start one now And link to it here and have it link here. I would love to pull in some of the story ideas from our outfit members, because im sure a lot of people have great ideas. AAR's both written on the forums and afterwards would be particularly fun for us too. Every once in a while we could do random fun ones too like maybe something inspired from halo or war-hammer, but I think initially it'll be good to keep it to planet-side lore.             Also I think I should mention that while i do my best to be there for these days as Mondays tend to work well for me, I am still living at home with parents and I cant guarantee a distraction free real world enviroment. For this reason Id appreciate backup leads to take over, in the event that im not there.

                I like the idea of a SAR mission in which a squad member gets dropped off on the map( or drives to a location) very deep behind enemy lines.

                The team member has to type text only to a small squad of 4-5 people a description of what they see and an approximation of where they are. They can't use radio nor names of bases, only terrain landmarks.

                Ideally the rescue member would be a TR alt in VS territory so rescue team cannot easily see them on the map.

                Goal is to escort the lost person out back to NC safe areas.
                Communications, Cohesion, Confidence.

                  You can simply create a second small squad and rely requests in Team Speak.

                  The rescue squad does not need to be that big, Pilot/driver(Infiltrator) and 2 gunners (medic, engineer) and once the recued squad is extracted, they can be added to the ranks as in many other rts games.


                  I have had to do this once myself, when the squad I was leading got hijacked (old auto join request bug maybe)

                  My squad auto joined to a platoon, PL swapped me out and distributed the other squad members to other squads, new SL put in place.

                  Due to lack of PL to SL and SL to SM comms, my previous squad members a mix of TG and non TG jumped ship and rallied up together into two or three group for pickup. Comms were limited Enemy resistance was building.

                  The non TG members did an excellent job of grouping up without comms, looking out for TG members and my TG Gal and jumped in when able to..

                  Previous mission was to fly base to base starting caps all over the place, stretching enemy forces all over the map into small fight, reducing the 96+ fights to 12 -24, still too large for us but small enough for our allied forces make a push.

                  So maybe these stories are not pre planned but they make for a fun time in the light of sabotage and rouge leaders.

                    It seems like the mission style of " rescue/escort people from behind enemy lines seems like one of the more popular ideas suggested Ill take a look at doing something like this soon"

                      Problem is, you can see the squad/platoon member easily on the map. Too easy. I want to avoid that. Going to do some playtesting. You can see friendlies on the map too, which is a bummer. And if they play as another faction, you can't load them into a vehicle, and it's a long slog on foot.

                            -while you can see friendlies on the map at distance your are unable to see them... if the mission started out at the warpgate and the rescue person is not in the squad /tells would be the only means of communication besides team speak. also teamspeak channles may be a separate option as well. It also may be of merit to put a slightly newer player that doesn't know about the area hes dropped off in, to add to the difficulty of finding the person...
