  • [EVENT] Friday Night Fights

Hey Everybody, So I know that in the past when I played there always seemed to be a form up about Friday Night Fights. Who was coming, what to expect and so on. I don't know what the standard is for this now so I'm just starting this up to see if I can get caught up faster. So I have a couple of questions just to get back on the same page.

    1 When is it
    2 Who can lead?

I'm almost positive I can make it. And if I qualify, I would like to lead as either a fireteam lead or squad lead. I don't mind doing whatever the PL want's but I would love to get a good armor squad up and rolling. From what I can tell from the little I have played, it seems that armor is really only good to use against other player made bases or as a back bone to AA which is not super effective. What is your all take on the armor play in Planetside 2 right now?

When? Fridays, typically starting around 8pm EST but realistically whenever we have a break in current gameplay to officially kick things off.

Who can lead? Everyone can lead. If you want to lead, I highly encourage it. In fact, if you're looking for an opportunity to lead FNF is the perfect time to do so. There are typically several officers on, so if you're looking for mentorship (particularly for the Corporal program) flag one of us down and we'll be happy to ride shotgun, give feedback, and help out.

    So yes, absolutely please lead.

What's my take on armour play? If it's something you're interested in doing there's always a willing contingent in TG. Armour provides midfield escort, defense/provision/assault of spawn logistics, and cover from enemy armour and air assault. It's usually not that hard for our PLs to find a use for armour units; the overwatch and stability they provide is very useful for infantry squads to maneuver around. Most of the time an armour squad can't doing a task all by itself (save for a few rare situations like fighting off an enemy vehicle push or air assault), but it serves as an excellent compliment to infantry.

The main places where armour finds itself of limited use are places where it can't engage usefully; particularly places offensive pushes on bases once the fight has moved past the outer walls and the armour is outside stuck twiddling their thumbs on guard duty. In those situations, the armour should probably get some distance from the base (to avoid contributing to the base population and making it easy for defenders to skew the infantry fight via reinforcement spawns) and/or focusing their efforts on providing and securing good spawns for the attackers. An armour squad, for instance, could move up to the next base an intercept freshly spawn armour or incoming aircraft, and something that often kills an assault is enemy vehicles moving to the perimeter of the base and killing all the spawn logistics.

TL;DR? A TG PL can usually accomodate an armour squadron.

If you would like to start organizing a future FNF, make a post and get signups. That's the way we used to do it. Sometimes the organizer will have a particular theme in mind. I'm too tired to search for those kind of older threads as an example, but maybe I will another time. :)

Making an FNF signup thread gets people more engaged IMO, something to look forward to, perhaps assigned roles, etc. In short it makes it a more special event than even a regular FNF. Therefore I think signup threads are a great tradition that we should get back to. I got all excited when I saw your post title, I thought this was going to be one such signup thread. :)

We used to run 2 infantry squads + 1 air + 1 armor squad on many FNFs, for the full combined arms experience. As Star said, you would certainly have takers were you to organize such an event. You might even draw people who otherwise might not have shown up. Just a thought.

Okay, well I would be down with making a thread for the FNF on the 26th. If a more qualified person would prefer to do it then by all mean be my guest. Otherwise I can just find one of the old threads and make it like to that one and put it up tomorrow for next week. Lets talk about it tonight if I can remember.

I was looking for an example the other day and I had to go back pretty far unfortunately. Maybe like 2014 (or earlier!) if my memory serves me. Look for one from myself or earlier ones from E-Male (or others) for instance. But if you hit "reply to" one of those, you can then copy and paste the OP with all the nice formatting to achieve the same effect.
