I've been wondering lately, but what keeps some of the players interested in the economic side of things from forming a group?

    Re: TG business sector

I for one will not be joining any group on or before launch.

Call me a Firefly nostalgic if you must, but I want to see what this universe is like for those going it alone.

Likewise, and I know I've made my opinion on this known before, I don't see the point in building a group for one role right off the bat when we have no idea if said role will actually turn out to be engaging and interesting. There will be plenty of time even in the persistent universe alpha to figure out what everybody enjoys doing.

I'll probably hook up with the TG guys later on, but you're not the only people I play games with either.

Don't expect any sort of exclusivity, strait raider. We all have friends beyond TG...

Maybe a TG independent trading & ming? Or TG Independent Business Consortium?

                Re: TG business sector

But seriously, since I just plunked down cash on a pledge today, and after reading a ton more, I think I am not ready to commit to a certain group yet either. For most of the reasons Straight mentioned; mainly we don't know how the game will play, etc.

Plus I can't spend a lot of money right now and so I just bought a basic ship. So I may need to do some basic trading and stuff in med/high security systems for a while at first to build up before I go PvPing. Of course, if an organized group of ships is getting together for some raid or protection contract or something, perhaps I could participate / help out with that. I think it is just way too early though to commit, large portions of "what the game will be" are nothing more than speculation / words on the part of CR at this point.

I tried to add myself to the Google Spreadsheet list of ships, but couldn't seem to do so. If someone would be so kind as to add me and my Aurora LN to the list of "Unafilliated / Undecided" I would appreciate it.

                  Re: TG business sector

My logic was that my pledge ship would be my PvPer since it comes with free insurance. If I wanted a trader, I would try to buy it with in game currency and insure it myself with its earnings.

But yeah I would be down for a TG trade / convoy every now and again. If not I can hang out with "other people"

                    Re: TG business sector

Wouldn't be a bad thing. As for our current two groups, we do have the ability to do trading and the such. We are not tied down to killing, PvP'ing, and the like. We can always do legitimate business, plus it wouldn't hurt to make neutral business partners that we can help or do regular business with.

                      Re: TG business sector

Yeah we should try not to tie ourselves down to just one in game niche/task. That would probably get boring quick. Having PvP ships mean we can totally do escorted convoys and fight off those darn pirates.

On the opposite end, we could be pirates ourselves and rob convoys using our bigger ships as the mule

Also, when getting a ship, try to leave your options open. The avenger has a 10 ton cargo hold, which is very large for a single seater, let alone a fighter

                          Re: TG business sector

I couldn't spend a lot, so it wasn't as if I had a lot of choices anyway, but one thing I noticed that I liked was that the Aurora shares the same modular cargo/upgrade system as the Connie, as they are from the same mfr. I figured that may come in handy at some point down the road.

But yeah, 10 tons is quite a lot for a single seater, esp. a fighter as you say. Aurora only holds 5, I wonder what capacity will be raised to once you add that larger cargo box thingy I saw somewhere...

My 315p has 8 tons cargo capacity I believe. That could have been a decent step up from the Aurora for you Randy. Plus you get that nice atmo fighter sexiness and some decent weapons and jumpdrive.

It's supposedly a 10-tonne box. The Aurora Clipper (Aurora Cargo variant) comes with the large box standard and is listed as having a 10-tonne capacity.

The Aurora LN looks like a nice ship to start off with. I do love the all-round glass cockpits of the RSI ships. Gonna be pretty nice to go sightseeing in.
