Neato. 30 minutes left on the download. Looks like I'll be able to reacquire my armor and rifle tonight.

Depends. If you haven't tried any of the 2.X releases, you can get a sense of what they're going for. If you have, nothing all that special has changed (unless you own one of the newly released ships or play as a criminal). The next major update (2.6) will bring along Star Marine, letting you try out the FPS part in an "arena" mode with improved FPS mechanics. 3.0 will be a game changer and it's scheduled for release this year, although I'd be willing to put good money on it slipping until mid/late Q1 '17.

Cool, thanks!

For the record, I have not invested or played, as I chose to wait out to see how development goes.

A sound decision. There's every so often (one just finished, I expect the next to coincide with 2.6/Citizen Con in October) free flight promotions - Letting you play the game with a few select ships without owning/paying for anything.

Jeepo its an exciting project to follow for many reasons. I will spare you my monologue and merely touch on a few thoughts I try to divulge to anyone who shows interest in this game.

We're witnessing a drastically different method of game development from a production and management perspective. Obviously it is no secret that the entire project is the creation of Chris Robert's vision, but the talent that they have attracted and the technical acumen that comes with it has give Chris the tools he needs to build what everyone wants. Which is a fully interactive FPS based Space Opera, but more than just skin deep. The challenges they have faced and overcome have really proven that, regardless of the detractors(Derek Smart comes to mind, that [email protected]) his international development team is not only capable, but driven to find solutions to these challenges.

You saw in the video the seamless transition from interplanetary space travel to planet surface in a rather fluid manner. To date, that has never been accomplished with the level of detail shown.

So in trying to keep this short, Ill toss additional thoughts on the effort here.

The fact that they have no publisher other than Robert's himself means they have the ability to put quality and fulfillment over deadlines. They are not grounded and forced to publish by marketing campaigns. There are no posts or commercials saying "Call of Star Citizen: Advanced Space Wars coming November 17th 2016" There are no additional titles relying on the profits of this effort. It is 100% genuine development with success in mind, nothing short.

Chris Roberts formula for success is: Ambition + Crowdfunding from long time fans + Quality/Care over deadlines + no publisher pressure + Talented, eager, willing developers = Star Citizen.

This game is going to change history and, like Eve, is going to last for decades. I point to Eve because there were many people who decried Eve's development process in the same manner, but look at that game now. All of the original critics are silent and the company has almost mastered large space-bourne battles.

Anyway, would be happy to give you a tour anytime Jeep.

Also, they're at 120,000,000 USD all from crowdfunding.

I'd like to add, when Chris started the original Kickstarter, he wanted maybe 3 million.

As of this date, Star Citizen is still the largest crowdsourced project on kickstarter, or any other donation platform, ever.

Thanks to their transparent development cycle, along with weekly videoes and social posts informing the backers of what they are doing, one can safely see that their money is being put to good use.

How often do you see that?

Great info, thanks D!

Is the current build an actual, playable game. Like, could 10 of us jump in and do some missions? Or is it still almost proof of concept stage?

You can but there aren't that many missions so far.
It's really shaping up though.
I enjoy playing it as it is.

Jeep, there are multicrew ships out now, that are playable as a team. The StarFarer, which is the largest ship out there, has 4 decks, a large cargo hanger(built into it) and several "man"-able turrets. Also four seats in the cockpit for pilot, captain, electornics officer and counter officer.

There is a LOT we can do at this point. There are single seaters, dual seaters, faster air superiority fighters, haulers, AWACS, and a plethora of other roles.

You dont have to be a pilot. The game is designed to have Many different roles that can be filled. I plan on being a space marine, lawful escort type. Maybe run my own squad of wolves. My hopes are that TG will be a large enough presence in Star Citizen that we will have pilots, mercs, engineers (Ship repair, internal and external, both in combat and out of combat is a thing.) and officers to have a real pocket of influence within the "Verse"

Its exciting man. There's a reason why the subsciber count gets higher as they progress in development. It's because it is quickly shaping up to have the most potential for variety for any type of MMO that has not only been conceived, but developed.
