Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I love RPGs, and I liked the earlier versions of this series, but I was dissappointed with Morrowind, since it enabled the creation of an uber-character.

I miss the days when there were trade-offs when building a character.

    3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

I love Morrowind but that was the first Elder Scrolls I played. I love how you can put so many hours in the game without ever starting the main quest. My brother will buy it for the 360 and I will buy it for the computer because their are so many mods that will be available.

Most certainly getting it at the 360 launch, and PC when amazing mods start coming out.

I never played the first two, but Morrowind was SO open ended it was godly. Reasons like that are why PnP RPGs > traditional RPGs in every sense, and I feel that Morrowind held true to that in every way.

Morrowind is a beautiful RPG with the right mods. Problem is... theres so many.

It looks awesome, and if Morrowind was any example of Bethseda's ability to make great games then we're in for a blast. I plan to get it as soon as I can. (For PC of course, gotta have mods) Unfortunetly, we'll all have to wait untill next year to play it.

Im looking foward to this alot

"It’s called Script Effect, and using it in conjunction with the scripting system, modders will be able to expand the magic system and create spells that do things we at Bethesda haven’t even thought of yet."

                    More quoting goodness

                    (Continued from my first quote)
"You could make a spell that changes the weather, or forces the target NPC to find a bed and go to sleep, or places a special item in the playerís inventory. Just about anything that is possible with the scripting system is possible with Script Effect. In fact, our designers have used Script Effect to implement a number of unique spells that would have otherwise been impossible to create with the generic spell systemÖ Letís just say that Sheogorath would be proud!"

Yep, I browse through the Elder Scrolls forums every once in a while to see if there is any new info. Sadly, there rarely is anything new, just people complaining about old news that they didn't like. It's a good thing that they have the Encylopedia (or Unofficial FAQ or whatever they call it) sticked so I can find any of the info I'm looking for though.

Only a few more months..... then we can get our hands on Oblivion.

Morrowind blew me away! I played that game for the longest time with just one character. There was just so much to do, and with all the mods...I was a happy camper. I'm really looking forward to Oblivion. Hurry up already!
