  • X-COM or how I know I'm old

I've pre-ordered the new X-Com Enemy Unknown and after watching the firaxis 2k webcast I'm pretty sure this is the X-COM we have been looking for. Anyone else picking this up?

    I will be buying it.

I still remember playing the original in college on a 40MHz x386 with my trusty old Soundblaster16. Good times.

In fact, I bought it again a couple of years ago off of STEAM. Runs real good through dosbox.

Sweet I thought I would be the only one buying the new X-COM. Draeh have you seen some of the multi player stuff on the new game yet? It looks really cool. We can play XCOM between rounds of CivV. Just another month away.

I'm going to be all over this game! Is it a coincidence that our Civ V players appear to be all in? :)

TBH tho I liked the third one (Apocalpse) the best. The pausable real time combat was great and it was much easier to keep your soldiers alive.

I'm stoked to see what this new version is like. :D

I had not seen that yet. Thanks for the heads up. It looks sweet.

I am okay with either time management system.

I really like the camera work their doing. Really immerses you into the action.

I can't agree more. The camera work looks amazing. Will save my money I was going to spend on GW2 and use it on XCOM instead.

Re: X-COM or how I know I'm old

I would rather have the turn-based game, personally. Although, for what it's worth, I would *really* like to have my 1st person FPS/strategy hybrid I was supposed to get in 1999-2000-2001 before it was cancelled, X-COM: Alliance.

That's why I pooh-pooh people like Spoony who went out of their way to denigrate when the FPS was announced. Dude, we've been looking forward to X-COM 4 for 12 years, ever since Microprose went out of business and got absorbed by Hasbro. Alliance was going to be run on the Unreal engine, have 4-5 AI teammates and picture-in-picture realtime camera views of your team as the squad leader, have multiplayer where you could pop in as one of the other squadmates.. It was going to be good times.

An intro/teaser from the X-Com Collectors Edition I got so many moons ago.

DICE needs to make a comical boxing glove attached to a spring punch the player in the face 40% of the time they get into a helicopter or jet.

Digital pre-orders are now available. If you pre-order through steam you get a free copy of Civ V.

                System requirements are also posted.

I already pre-ordered mine through Best Buy (for the base map and insignia). They had better not screw me on release day.

This one is likely a keeper so I'm going to try to find a box @ retail. Never liked the fact you don't actually own the game with Steam.

                        Sectoids are going down!

I still remember trying the demo for the original XCOM, which came on a 3.5" floppy inside of a gaming magazine. Totally hooked and bought the full game immediately.

Having played the demo I'm going to put this on my buy list. Sadly never played the original.
