What impact does increasing armor do for ships?

Well, this is from the gameplay constants file:
    HullPointPercentageIncreasePerArmorPoint 0.05

And I did some testing. Giving a ship 20 armor makes it take about half damage. Which corroborates with what I've read in other threads: the "effective" HP of a ship goes up by 5% for every armor point. Which makes the damage reduction formula something like:

    1 / (1 + HullPointPercentageIncreasePerArmorPoint * armor)

    found this in gameplay.constants
    HullPointPercentageIncreasePerArmorPoint 0.05
what this could mean is that:
a ship with 0 armour and 1000 hull has 1000 ehp (effective hull points)
a ship with 10 armour and 1000 hull has 1500 ehp.
a ship with -6 armour and 1000 hull has 700 ehp.

Personally, I am not convinced 100% of these answers. I would like to do some testing if anyone is interested.
