  • Performance Test benchmarking

Just out of curiosity, has anyone run the performance test on their machines? On my last test I got these results:

    Avg: 51 fps
    High: 102
    Low: 28

This seems reasonable, but do I have some room to work with here or will that grind the game to a halt when it gets crazy?

Sounds good to me. CoH doesn't get crazy like many other RTS games. You don't pump units out by the dozen.

I'll try running a perf. test tonight and see what I get...

Yeah even with that relatively high score I still get a little chop during heavy action on some single player maps.

          Re: Performance Test benchmarking

Alright I ran my performance test and this is what I got:

          Performance test results: Good
          Avg. Framrate: 31.8fps
          Max. Frame Rate: 104.0fps
          Min. Frame Rate:13.9fps

Hope that helps. I could prob. lower a few settings to get a better avg., but I haven't really had any problems yet.

            Re: Performance Test benchmarking

I found some interesting results in a set of tests I did. I concentrated on the important numbers, which are the MIN fps numbers.

I don't have the actual numbers with me right now, but the result was that the best performance came with:
            - Shaders Low, Model Quality High, AA off (everything else default)

Believe it or not, this was better overall than the same settings with Model Quality Low. Model Quality must only make a useful difference when Shaders are on high.

I have yet to experience any bogging in the game with my AMD64-3200 (I think), 9800 Pro (256 Meg).

(and ya Beatnik, your numbers are WAY ABOVE mine - I'll post them later)

              Re: Performance Test benchmarking

Ok, here's what I got. All settings were default, and I toyed with shader, model, and AA settings. This is 1440x900 resolution.

              (Avg,Max,Min)
              1. Shader Low, Model High, AA on - 24.4, 75.6, 12.9
              2. Shader Low, Model High, AA off - 29.3, 97.0, 15.2
              3. Shader Low, Model Low, AA on - 27.7, 82.0, 10.6
              4. Shader Low, Model Low, AA off - 29.9, 101.0, 12.9

Notice how 2 has the best numbers. 4 has a better average, but it is really the bogging on the low end that you want to avoid the most. The difference between 97.0 and 101.0 is meaningless.

So is a low min better or worse? And performance wise, I'm assuming a higher avg. is better right?

Higher MIN is the most important number. It is the fps you get when there is lots of stuff happening on the screen. Theoretically, you could have a MAX of 200 fps, a MIN of 1 fps, and and AVG of 100 fps. That MIN means that you would be crying whenever the action got heavy.

Good stuff. I may try to eek out a few extra min FPS, but overall 28 is pretty playable, even in those hectic situations.
