  • Sahrani Air Space - Say May 20 - Discussion Thread

Here is a look at the overall map.

Notice that there are air space markers over each objective area. This is because we will need to hand off frequencies to aircraft operating on specific objectives. Imagine if you will, 4 ground teams all trying to call in CAS on the same frequency when they are each at least 10 km apart. Part of the XO duties on this mission will be to ensure that the ground forces and air forces are assigned frequencies dynamically throughout the mission.

This is the same as real life pilots who are traversing different air spaces controlled by different ATC towers. We will need to do the same here. To help with that I have also put a "Program Radios" add action on each player and each air vehicle. Next I will add this to every ground vehicle as well. This is to help keep the radio config as easy as possible so we can use channels instead of frequencies.

Above is a look at the Southern Ground Staging Area. You can see the rough make up of the groups and vehicles that are assigned. Obviously the BUSK II's will be very slow on such a large terrain. However, they should be pretty good at dealing with some of the choppers that may come your way. The Humvees and the trucks are going to be much faster at getting around the island.

This am the holding pattern for runway 180 has been placed on the map. The air assets have been largely set up. I will list those later. In rough terms there are 3 F-122 for ground support with AA capability. One A-10 and one Wipeout. There are two F-22 with AA and ground support as well. Many variety of choppers as well.

On the carrier there are only two jets available, F-122 loaded out with all AA only. One of them is a stealth version.

All vehicles and persons will have access to a "Program Radios" through their personal menu which will standardize all channels/frequencies for the entire Blufor side. You will also need to run this program when you enter a vehicle if you are using the vehicle radio.

I've added a Air Traffic Controller slot with a AN/ARC-210 long range radio that has a range of 40km. This person will be responsible for the safe air traffic around the airbase and carrier. This player will also assign channels/frequencies to ground teams and their air support elements as is needed.

One of the Bradley fighting vehicles has been changed to have the AA capability. This was so to not leave ground forces useless if there are no friendly aircraft in the region. This may revert back based on some testing to be completed this evening.

We need to ensure that all pilots are on Task Force Radio or else we will have coms chaos. All pilots must be able to demonstrate capability to fly and communicate...or be a TG regular. Any pilot not meeting these requirements will be removed. If necessary this will be the only time admins may utilized a timed ban to protect this event.

I've been working on the organization some more. Had a great chat with Dimitrius yesterday who will act as TRACON (Air Traffic Controller). We have expanded a holding pattern for Fixed Wing aircraft and sorted out some of the ComSig.

I've decided to do a planning document on Google Drive just because it is so fluid that keeping the forums updated is 4x as much work. This document is being worked on in real time.
