  • New ACE implementation of under-barrel grenade launchers

    In case you hadn't noticed, there is a new method of aiming grenade launchers in-game. With the old method you pressed a button and got a little box which told you the approximate range your grenade would fall at. This would depend wholly on how high you pointed the launcher. It would result in difficulty putting rounds on targets accurately for a number of reasons.

    In the new implementation, there are two keys which set the range for the GL (if it is selected), similar to how you set the range on AT weapons (I believe the default keys are up and down. To remap them you will need the newer userconfigs - http://www.tacticalgamer.com/arma-2-...nfigs-ace.html). The range is adjusted in 50m increments - up to a max. of 400m for the M203. Once you have set the range, simply point your ironsight directly at the target and fire. Providing you are on flat ground the range should be accurate, and I think fine tuning is possible by aiming slightly higher or lower.

    This setup makes grenade launchers much more fun to use, and much more effective - I have been actively using the GLs now instead of avoiding them. I didn't see any notifications about this feature anywhere by the way, and only stumbled across it when updating/customising my userconfigs.

    #UPDATE# I'm guessing that it applies to all hand-held grenade launchers, so the thread title might be a bit off.

    I don't think that you can fine-tune the range by lowering or raising your weapon -- whatever range the card says is the range the grenade will land at, full stop.

    While it still leaves something to be desired (50m is a big increment with such small ordinance), it definitely makes UGLs more attractive as combat weapons. Not to mention, now the M32 is an absolutely beastly medium-range tool of CHAOS!

      There you are wrong, Scope. The sight adjustments (all of them) are relative to muzzle angle. It's just like - as the name says - adjusting the sights on the weapon, still letting you aim freely.

        Hmm, really? I tested the new UGL system today by pointing the muzzle at my feet and squeezing the trigger. Sure enough, it landed 100m. away, blowing up whatever it was that my barrel was pointed at on the X axis.

          Huh.. you mean you were aiming straight down?

            I cant get this to work....there doesnt seem to be any thing in my ace config file that lets me bind a key to adjust UGL's. I tried the up and down keys, to no avail.

            Suggestions?

              Just a wild guess here, but I'm pretty sure it's this one you need to edit to change the keys:

                    Replace the content of your ace_keys.hpp with http://pastebin.ca/1747026 . (Take care to avoid copying the line numbers by accident.)

                      The userconfig from your ACE mod folder should have the proper entries. The one in your root A2\userconfig\ace will likely be outdated. Use the modfolder one to "patch" it. Default is:

                              Now they need to do this exact same thing for the medium machine guns ... then the light machineguns .... then rifles. Really, why wouldn't you? Other than any possible performance issues (network lag I would assume).
