  • ARMA 2 Navigation Course [Hosted by Task Force Proteus] 3:15PM EST

Hey all, this saturday 'Task Force Proteus' will be hosting a new course for the community. This one is focusing on Navigation. It has come to my attention that some of you do not have a full grasp on Navigation within ARMA 2 and only know how to go from 'A' to 'B'. Theres a lot more to reading a map than just that.

So, if you are interested in learning a mastery of Navigation and how to interpret maps, feel free to attend. Information to follow. -Zedic

    NAVIGATION COURSE

    DATE: 6 MAR 2010
    TIME: 1500EST [2000GMT]
    COURSE RUN TIME: 120-180 MINUTES

    PREREQUISITES: NONE.

    COURSE LAYOUT/ITINERARY:

    1. INTRODUCTION TO MAP AND COMPASS
    2. HOW TO SHOOT A BEARING
    3. EASTINGS AND NORTHINGS
    4. SIX TO TEN FIGURE GRIDS
    5. CONTOURS
    6. LEGEND
    7. RESECTION
    8. PLOTTING A ROUTE
    9. ORIENTEERING EXERCISE

Please post if you plan on attending so I can have rough idea as to number of those interested.

sounds like a great course. I'm not sure I can make it for the date however. I'll check back when I know for sure. Put me down as a definate maybe.

Thanks for stepping up and sharing your knowledge with the TG community at large.

I definetaly have interest in this one. IT'll be useful for my real life trekking as well.

But Im not sure I could stay till the end, cause 2 hours seems a bit too long for me tomorrow.

A refresher would be good, can make it, unless someone more in need would like my spot.

Zedic you could have a test at the end where each course member is released one by one, and has to navigate between objectives on the map (no map markers of course) each manned by an instructor (or marked with something they can pick up if there are not enough), just like the real thing. Make it a cold day, nothing about except open wilderness and a 5 ton truck at the beginning and end. Consider giving us combat loads too!

The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but Im just not close enough to get the job done."
