  • Making the magic happen on Bravo

    Hi Guys,

Excuse this long winded post but this just has to be said.

I just wanted to let all you all know that the new configuration for TG Arma Servers is working.

Last night I joined Bravo Server with the intention of trying out the new Ace only idea. Needless to say I was really disappointed when I saw domi was being played. As to be expected it turn into one massive cluster f*çç*k almost from the start. People were blowing stuff up, planes were crashing into base etc etc. I was very disappointed…was this TG style…my beloved TG? Hell no! I silently cursed and ranted and swore(not in game).

Then after about 10 minutes I believe Socom came on and changed the mission to WAC xxx. I thought great WAC with pubbers=epic fail. I could not have been more wrong. B led the mission and 1 section with Falcon commanding 2 section.
It was possibly one of the best TG sessions I have had in a very long time. I was very impressed with the discipline and coordination of the non TG`ers. 1 Section moved like clockwork. Merlo did a fantastic Job as 2IC when me and B got ambushed. Mid mission I believe the playercount was well over 20.
Many of these players were pubbers so in conclusion I believe if we can keep this kind of momentum up on Bravo then we will see an increase in new blood.
I overheard quite a few guys asking if they could come and play again on the server and that they really enjoyed our style of play.

Oh and before I forget VON worked very well to control the masses so I also believe we should keep using that on Bravo and have the hardcoreness on Alpha.

Sorry for the rant but I guess what I want to say is…..I think we may have found that magic middle ground.

cheers for reading and make sure you come to Bravo tonight for more action

The missions like domi, warfare, ace training grounds, although can be done with tactics, teamwork etc etc, are really just for screwing around with, yes we are TG and are *cough* mature teamplaying gamers *cough* but we still like to screw around from time to time, and with domi at least it doesnt cause a problem :D

Love the setup. Great job. Myself being the guy just installed the game again like a new guy I was able to be ready for action after only downloading the ACE. We did have a lot of pubs who played with us in that WAC. All of them followed orders to teeth and was very surprised.

Gotta give it up to Krause for driving. Without him the JIPs, and respawns would not have gone as smooth. I am probably gonna stick with Bravo coz I am biased towards ease of using VON.

Great stuff 1 section. Merlo great job stepping up while I was absent for a little bit. As I type this there are 9 guests looking it this thread as well. haha.

B, can you confirm on a "blank install" the guick start guide was accurate and easy to follow?

Re: Making the magic happen on Bravo

yeah. But you do have to extract the userconfig.tar and copy and paste it to the appropriate folders. Other than that it was easy. I downloaded the ACEM folder and changed my target line to include that.

          EDIT:
One more thing I noticed with the 1.05 patch. I patch it to 1.04 and then I apply 1.05. In my case for some reason I get an error trying to patch from 1.02 to 1.05.

I tried to find the screenshot showing the special-key keybinds for the radio system, but it was in a now-gone pdf. If someone could track down a picture and send it to me or add it to the wiki it would help add a missing peice to the guide.

Indeed, it was fun to see Bravo server working again like the ye olde dayse ofe ArmAe 1...e.
Bravo was always the "less serious" of the two servers, and it was the easier to play on for us (at the time) pubbers. The only thing we had to do was behave ourselves and not cause any trouble, and we still had lots of fun. i remember I was even put in command once (and started going downhill for various software/hardware issues and went completely to pieces at the end, like every time I'm in command) and it was easier to have more specialised roles, that in an event are usually reserved to players that are extremely good in that role, since we were more open to experimentation.
I still love playing on Alpha when everything is set up perfectly, also because on Alpha we simulate the "good bits" of military protocols (the radio SOPs, while taking a bit to learn, do make comms much more easier).
The only two things that I'm missing* are ArmATS for the Direct Chat (since ArmA's Direct VON can only be heard if one is a) very close or b) willing to go deaf whenever someone fires a gun. And the sound quality is better :icon_bigg ) and Mando Missile Addon when using a Javelin (I ABHOR the vanilla ArmA 2 javelin autolock: I can't see what I'm locking on, I cannot be certain of a hit, and it uses map coordinates often making the missile miss the target), but I can live without when playing on Bravo. :p

                *Edit:
I know I can activate them, and some of the options are client-side, but given that MMA confilcts with the Cobra FCR and EASA I might as well leave it off :p

Re: Making the magic happen on Bravo

I actually enjoyed playing Domi yesterday until I was killed by a rocket attack by one of our own helos. It took awhile to get the players working together as a team but once we did it went real well with some new players. All it took was a couple of guys willing to take charge and get things headed in the right direction. The blue on blue was addressed quickly by Merlo talking to Socom and some bad behavior is to be expected on the public server but can be dealt with if we have some TG players there. I will be showing my face regularly on Bravo to at least give moal support.

If Alpha is non-JIP or full slots (which I would encourage mission selectors to not be so afraid of selecting anymore) hop onto bravo and help seed the welcome wagon there!

2 10+ people servers (one without password) looks a lot nicer than a single locked 25+ man server.

                      I totally agree with this.

But on the same note - Alpha has been dead the past few nights (hence why I haven't been on). I understand some people are "boycotting" arma2ts now after the last event; but I still prefer the level of play on Alpha vs. Bravo (and prefer arma2ts, with its flaws, vs VON. My VON reception has ALWAYS sucked).

It sucks to sit on TS all night (at least I have other stuff to do) waiting for something to be going on in Alpha, but it seems that the boycott might be bigger than I can see? Or are we just doing some sort of unspoken PR push?

The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, “You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done."

All the event should have demonstrated is that we can't do another big event with it until Rommel releases his ALLEGEDLY 500% more optimized version. However, it is still quite functional with WAC sized groups of 32 or less. That being said, I prefer Alpha. We just need more missions... and the QA process is quite problematic, not for conceptual but for procedural reasons. I know several peoples whose missions have vanished during the QA process, requiring them to resubmit (delaying their addition to the server by multiple weeks).

Re: Making the magic happen on Bravo

Players need to be aware that if no one joins the server becuase no one joins the server then the merry go round will never stop, if the server is empty and you want to play join alt + tab out and read the forums, it sends a signal to others that someone is ready to rock and roll. Once the server hits 5+ players people tend to join rather quickly.

It will be interesting to see if the optimization pays off, but what happened during the event is probably a TS3 issue: 60+ players talking at once in the same channel will overload the server, with or without ArmA2TS
Also, as Krause mentioned, the plugin/TSserver still work well with around 40 players. It's when we get to the 50 players mark that things start to crumble apart.

Also, is there really a boycott going on, or is it simply a slow week?
Frankly I can't see what boycotting TG because of the plugin would accomplish, or if it even makes sense. :p

I think (hope) its a slow week. As we all know TS IS a requirement for Alpha......*cough* however. Due to the fact that the update "misplaced" the a2ts files, VON is acceptable until Satuday. By then everyone should have it sorted out.

As soon as the optimized update is released we will add it in.
