  • Geforce GTX 480/470 reviewed: Benchmark Armed Assault 2 (DX9)

I know a bunch of people have been waiting to see what the new Nvidia cards were going to be able to offer, and I've been keeping an eye out for a review with ARMA2 benchmarks. This is the first one I have found:

Geforce GTX 480/470 reviewed: Benchmark Armed Assault 2 (DX9)

I wish he had done some commenting on the testing, like if he saw anything odd, but I just don't see enough advantage to choose it over a 5870. If you haven't seen the other reviews yet, they are not good. The 480 can get up to 95C while gaming, which is just sick, and sounds like a vacuum cleaner when the fan speeds up. Here is the tech forum thread about it:

Essentially its 15% faster than the single gcard ATI offering, but runs much hotter, consumes more power and is noisy.

    I am disapointed.

That video benchmark has horrible pop-up on the textures and shadows. Wonder if he's not using an SSD.

Doubt there is an SSD being used in the test, the FPS would probably be quite a bit higher if there was.

Hopefully the fermi cards will get better drivers and come down in price (a lot) otherwise ATi has this round of graphics cards in the bag.

Damnit Blizzard, fix ZvT already >.<

They actually already have this gen in the bag. They have had their cards out for 6 months or so and sold millions and millions of cards, and word is both ATI and Nvidia plan to release next gen before the end of the year. Not sure if Nvidia can handle that, but I'm sure ATI will, and Nvidia will do everything it can to try and release the same time.

In fact, I want to order a 5870 right now, but half of the different models on Newegg are sold out.

            95C?!

I am so happy I got my 5850 right now...
