  • The Shack "Tactical" Gamer Joint Session - June 27th





    For the past month, the administration team has been working closely with the folks down at Shack Tactical to plan out a joint session for you all. After much coordination with their Staff, we’ve set a time, date, and outline for the event. Please read carefully through the entire post before asking any questions or signing up.

    When and Where

    The session is expected to start at the time below and last for several hours. Plan on showing up half an hour early.

    Sunday, the 27th of June 2010 at 1 PM Central Time (11 AM Pacific and 2 PM Eastern)
    • In game on the Tactical Gamer Alpha Server (Using TG's Yoma - other TG servers will be down)
    • In Teamspeak2 on the Shack Tactical TS2 Server (Using ShackTac's Keybinds)

    What to Expect

    The missions we will be playing are high player-count adversarial (TvT) ones; some will utilize the standard Shack Tactical Platoon layout, and some will not (we may play a cooperative mission later in the session if the playercount has dropped enough for the server to not asplode). Both TG and ST will develop missions to be played over the course of several hours, and both communities are planned to supply roughly 50-60 players each to play these missions. This will not be an “us vs. them”-type deal. Teams will comprise of both TG and ST players working together.

    To play, all you will need to do is make sure to be up to date with your Yoma Addon Sync. We will do an ACE update through YAS on the 18th and not update it again until after the joint session.

    By signing up and participating, you should expect to…
    • Be on your best behavior, especially in the presence of our guests
    • Be flexible and willing to try a different take on playing ArmA
    • Be open to play with and against Shackers whom you’ve never met before (they don’t bite, honestly)

    There are three essential things (and one optional thing) to check off to ensure you are highspeedlowdrag, good-to-go! for the session. It is important that you get these things squared away right away.

    Dslyecxi is created a Session Quick-Start Guide to assist players in getting ready for the event. It is available by following this link, and mainly briefs you on the use of TS2 for the session. Reading it is mandatory.
    1) TG Yoma Addon Sync
    • Make sure to keep your YAS up to date. At this point in time, we're assuming to be using June 18th's ACE update; for more information on updating TG YAS, go here.

    2) Teamspeak 2
    • We're using the older, reliable TS2 because of its Channel Commander function. To download it for Windows / Linux / Mac OS X, click here and select the first mirror (TS2 Client, not the updated binary).

    3) ShackTac Keybinds for TS2
    • Going hand-in-hand with using Teamspeak2, these keybinds are mandatory for the session. Get them by clicking here.
    • ShackTac's TS2 Server will be open from the 21st through the 27th for players to test their keybinds. Make sure you do this at least once well before the session to ensure everything is working properly.
    • The address is 68.142.120.172 and the password is readysteadygo

    4) ST HUD (optional)
    • The ShackTac HUD provides situational awareness of your fire team members using a radar that is in the middle of the bottom of your screen. It is a client-side addon, so you may download here if you wish.

The general idea right now is that the TG-contributed missions are likely to have ticket-based respawning (such as you see in Falcon/beta missions). The only difference will be that we will be running one version short of the latest ACE to prevent any last-minute bugs from interfering with the games. For now, just keep your YAS up to date and you should be fine.

        More information and instructions will be stressed as we get closer to the 18th, ACE's supposed update day and the 27th, game day, so please keep your ears open and check back to this thread often.

      • I think it's been explained well that this is a high-risk thing to do (100-player coop), whereas doing the same playercount as a PvP scenario is far lower risk. We may try a coop later in the session when the player count has lowered to acceptable levels.

          This should be a very fun event for all that are able to make it. It will be fun to have cross community events again. Hopefully we can have a great turnout.

                      Looking forward to participate (if I get a slot).

                      This is confusing, though:

                      1) TG Yoma Addon Sync
