Quick version, should I get it or not?

Financially I am happy to take a punt on 8.

No reason not to. People will make missions with those units, so they may as well look pretty.

If you have the money to waste, go for it. I hear essentially all your buying is the models for 10$, rumour around is that the SP mission is a little weak.

I liked the pack , it adds nice variation for missions. For example, using Ebank's kunar region map, I could have US guys at a combat outpost in korengal valley and have brits come by a heli for a joint patrol of some sort, and when done just go home :)

Absolutely worth the money. The BAF DLC includes a full set of infantry in 3 different camo options (MTP/DPM/Desert-DPM), plus a host of new weapons and vehicles (both land and air). There is also a new (small) map, a short SP campaign and some bonus SP/MP missions; but as a TG regular I'm sure what you'll appreciate most is what BAF brings to multiplayer: more solid content which mission makers can use to tell an even broader range of interesting stories. It's good quality stuff, and fairly priced IMHO.

Moreover, the decision to bundle the BAF Lite units with the v1.54 patch should be saluted as a responsible move on the part of BI. The vanilla OA community won't fragment over this, so even if you decide not to invest in the DLC, you won't be frozen out of BAF missions. BI has certainly made its share of mistakes over the years, but its overall level of long-term support for the wider community is great, and it seems churlish to begrudge it the opportunity to recoup something from this continuing investment. After all, BI has employees with families to feed too!

You might even take the long-term view that by supporting BI's commercial DLC, you're helping it build a business case for further development of the ArmAx franchise; but I think the DLC is priced in such a way that it makes its own case for purchase.

My only gripe is that the L85s seem far too reliable - I await a PoorlyBuiltMODKit mod ;)

very good points Fer.... I didnt realize a map came with it as well. What i would love to pay for is an island that has rivers and actual islands, maybe like the Japanese Island chain, or even a Dragon Rising copy of that island with then combined a mountainous separated by a 'channel' or ocean!!! THATS what id pay good money fore :)

Bah, I'll pick it up this weekend after I get paid. If we buy it from Steam, can we copy it into our retail folder?

I got it but the strange thing is that the patch feels more value for money than some nicely rendered models and sounds....

I'm still happy though cos my settings can go a touch and I can now get to fly the Lynx.... :D

                        Re: British Armed Forces DLC

Sorry to bump an older thread (and hello!), but I just found out about British Armed Forces the other day. Will BAF become mandatory for TG servers any time in the future? I held off on playing A2 online ever since OA was announced and have been hurting for it -- I'd hate to discover that just after I finally cave and spend the cash for Arrowhead that I'll have to buy another thing too. It's the original ARMA or nothing at the moment...

The Biki contains very little information about BAF; more precisely, none at all. Fer mentioned "BAF Lite units" above -- does that mean inherent OA compatibility?

Yes on the compatibility. No on the mandatory (as it's compatible by default). It's purely optional.

BAF Lite (included with the 1.54 patch) contains everything you need to play on servers running BAF content. The downside is that the quality is pretty poor, but it keeps everybody playing together nicely.

Heres a video somewhat showing the difference.

                            Re: British Armed Forces DLC

Welcome to TG JT! I hope you have fun during your stay. To answer one part of your post:

BAF is now included in the most recent patch however it is very low resolution. But you still have it. If you want to drop the $12 bucks to get the better models that up to you. However, because it is a paid DLC, we will not require it. We will never force you to buy anything other than the game itself to play on our server.

                            I hope that helps ;)
