  • Domination-TG style

I was wondering if we could get a collaboration going on a TG flavor of Domination. I know a while back Flack made a TG version, but I think it got left behind in the upgrade to OA. I was wondering if we could get this thread going with some ideas that would help the people who know how to tweak Domination.

I think it would be cool if we broke it down into manageable groups like the ST platoon structure, and really make it hard. I really like some of the things that Domi offers, but some of the stuff is just not TGs cup of tea, and could possibly be edited out so that it might run a little more smoothly than it already does. But I belive if you set up a really nice squad structure, then it would help with the overall flow of the game.

I would really like to see a lot of "Side Missions" that are in greater difficulty and maybe require objective A to be done first then B before it is officially done....if that would take to long then I would jsut be happy with side missions only :)

I think that there should be limited trans like there is now, but maybe take out a little bird and maybe throw in a Huey. What do you guys think?

I'd like to see a lot more enemy armor, more enemy tripod emplacements, landmines, AA/AT infantry, and access to attack aircraft as rewards for more difficult or multi-tiered side missions. With only 2 squads of infantry per town and only 3 vehicles, you never need more than 4 people at any one time.

It's a buzzkill when you get 3 seasoned grunts together into a town to gather recon then immediately go obsolete when the hill snipers and ground attack aircraft go easy mode and level everything in sight (not that there was much there). There's nothing wrong with superior and overwhelming firepower, but vehicles become supermen, instead of infantry support.

Convoys bringing in enemy infantry as well as armor would also be welcome, instead of only being harassed by the troop dropping hind and occasional jet. I'm sure there's room to add more without going overboard. I know some of the towns have reinforcements written in, but usually turns out to be 4 lost guys and maybe a vehicle.

Maybe make nicer weapons/vehicles/ammo more sparse, but acquirable through raids on convoys, certain side missions? Instead of turning the desert to glass, maybe finesse an ambush or precision smash-and-grab for supplies? We're spoiled easily from the abundance of weapons and vehicles available in the current version.

Emergency transportation? Maybe civvy vehicles spotted around the map, or have an option to call in a motorcycle (bus stops/gas stations?). Something for those of us who need some form of transport for times when someone else forcibly disables or rejects requests to preferred modes of transport. I'm not sure about others, but it takes me longer to disconnect, reconnect, and set up for action than it does to walk 3km to the next town over.

A fix for "Communications towers" and "Fortresses"? They both use the 2-floor camouflage net thing, how about using something more intimidating, as well as beefing up security in the immediate area for those structures? Tripods, landmines, infantry garrisons, etc.

Or maybe the "Fortress" could spawn enemy infantry reinforcements? Maybe not, since that's starting to creep into a whole other game mode.

And the last town would be the airfield on the opposing side, an overfortified, sort of Last Boss objective-wise. More difficult than usual towns at least.

That would actually be pretty awesome. Maybe if there were enough people on, you could dispatch a second squad to try and take them out before they reached the town.

Personally, one of the things I love about Domi is the ability to take my favorite weapons loadout. Despite how unrealistic it is.

      "Emergency transportation?"
There is a script in one of the versions that allows engineers to call in Humvee's. Maybe it could be adapted to allow squad leaders to call one in for their squad?

What do you guys feel about the MHQ's? Like/Dislike/Rather have to wait for a ride back from main after respawn?

there is a module that drops in civilian vehicles all over towns and stuff. shouldnt be TOO laggy as long as you arnt spawning civilian AI.

i like having my choice at start up when playing domi as i see it as my testing sandbox sort of thing.

If your server can cope with the ambient civilian module without causing mental lagg then that might add a nice touch... would mean you cant just artillery barrage or carpet an AO in mk82s due to civilians.

I think it would be BA to see a C-130 Spooky intertwined with having to have a ful crew or something :)

I'd miss my favorite gun+mod combos at the start too, but for difficulty, "limited weapons on start; exotic weapons acquirable" could be a modifiable parameter.

Seconded. Having to consider a big enemy plane; when to shoot it down before it does (any more) damage, when to fire so it doesn't crash land on friendlies, accompanying escorts. Might give the pilots more to think about than the usual multiplayer training exercise in guided munitions.

there are scripts out there for an AC130 but IIRC there are no actual proper mods for one :(

I'm gonna play devil's advocate. All I want is a Domi map with A-10s spawned on base so I can just rape every main mission.

haha, there are usually enough on most pubbie servers to bomb the map full of holes, which is what most people end up doing.

Starting with the friendly base, of course.

Unfortunately that is all too true considering my pubbing experience tonight. Oh well, at least I got some A-10 fun :D

its a long time since iv played domi on TG servers but one remedy for zealous pubbing air attacks that we do on our server is. we have 4 pilot slots. only these 4 slots can pilot any combat air vehivles (A10s F16s apache cobra etc) and we also enforce a rule that all pilots MUST be on team speak. now transport choppers can be flown by all and this really helps to reduce the bad piloting. it certainly isnt perfect but it makes a massive difference and is very easy to do

infact we have the same for several things. only arty guys can use arty only armour slots can use the heavy armour etc.

I could do this if you like.

I have been playing around with mission ideas for a while but domi is a pretty solid base to build on since its so popular.

I need some more ideas so far I have crew check and pilot slots.

@heatsink, its easy to make domi much harder, You can change ai skill to super high.
Adding 100 infantry 12 MBT's and Tungustas to a main target is possible, but is that what you want?
I meen you add too much it will start lagging.

I really do not think that increasing numbers to crazy counts is the solution, I think more infantry and one or two more mechanized things. I would like to see multiple crates with different sets of weapons and I would like to incorporate logistics a lot more too if possible!

Inq, I know you do fantastic work, cant wait to see what you may come up with!!!

                              Re: Domination-TG style

Increasing AI skill in my experience changes gameplay dramatically. Usually suppression fire suppresses the AI for about a minute until you take fire and have to relocate. It's fine on normal, but with higher difficulties, the AI become headshot aimbots at increasingly longer ranges, not because the AI have sniper rifles, but because of the difficulty. It makes the use of vehicles all the more important, but more than 2 or 3 vehicles in friendly operation can usually be enough to clear a town, depending on how it's crewed and deployed (using cover, supporting infantry).

A starting spawn of literally 100 infantry is a probelm with an arty-only solution, but towns are usually isolated, have about 20-30 loose patrolling, and paratrooper reinforcements only bring in about 10 every ten minutes. Each town then only becomes a 15min challenge with an average group of 4 working in concert, longer if they fail to communicate, recon, and fart around on the side of a hill with a TWS m107 (killing me half the time since I'm the only pair of boots in the town).

If 20-30 infantry and 3 vehicles is about the reasonable starting spawn limit, then more frequent enemy reinforcements by land and maybe vehicles air dropped in could help increase difficulty moderately and sanely.
