  • Major computer problem after ArmA 2 install

    Hey Peeps,
I have had a complete meltdown of my rig after attempting to install ArmA 2.
A disaster actually. Now I get BlueScreen at startup. Trying to use system restore failed, as the restore point has become lost or corrupted and attempts at using the vista repair function on the original OS disk has been unsuccessful. Even the complete backup I have on a external disc (a ghost made 2 1/2 weeks ago) will not take.
To add to the bizarreness, The bios screen at start up appears corrupted.
Needless to say, I'm truly fornicated.

I'm running (or was) Vista 64 on an evga MB. 2.66 quad core extreme.

    What a mess.
    Windows 7 rc (64 bit)
Intel QuadCore 9650 3.0Ghz (Yorkfield) running at 3.6Ghz

Take out your graphics card and connect to your onboard graphics. This is just a shot in the dark.Check what happens. It might be that your graphics card is gone.

    Good Luck!

Yea if a critical piece of hardware has gone that might explain not being able to do anything.

What is the message that the bluescreen gives you?

If the BIOS screen is messed up, it has nothing to do with your OS, it 's definitely a hardware problem. Try replacing some parts, start with graphics card and RAM, those are most likely the ones causing the problem.

            Thanx people,
Yes, bad vid card. Now the problem is while trying to restore a ghost image (total backup) I get bluescreen booting off my vista install disc.
            The code is
            Stop:
            0x0000007e (0xffffffffc0000005,0xfffff8000985e251,0xfffff9800 0a05b98,0xfffff98000a05570)

            Update-
I removed 2 sticks of ram and that seems to have allowed me to do a restore from ghost back up (in progress now...)
When it completes (crossing fingers and toes) I'll go ahead and put'em back in and see what happens. Just happy I had a back up vid card.

Good luck - I know how much of a pain hardware failing is, especially diagnosing the problem :\
