  • Air Missions

Flying is my favourite part of the game by far. Don't get me wrong... I realize infantry and vehicle combat is a wayyy bigger part of the game but it doesn't stop me from loving air combat. I just don't see any servers running air cavalry missions... or know where to find any missions myself. I love either supporting in a jet or Cobra or transporting in helis/planes. It doesn't matter. If it has to do with flying I'm there. Anyone know where I can play games with major air roles?

    Re: Air Missions

We have a wide variety of missions, most created by the TG community here, on both Alpha and Bravo servers. I'd say that maybe a third of all [TG] tagged missions have some sort of force-multiplying equipment, be it artillery or aircraft.

I'd say every other mission or so involves air support in some form. Especially he respawn ones where the objectives are far away from the spawn and you need guys making transport runs.

Problem is, everyone and their mother wants to fly.

... but too few are really capable of doing it.

Being infantry is usually more exciting anyway :row__577:

          Re: Air Missions

I've flown cobra CAS missions on the TG server, and there is usually some needs for atleast one pilot.
Thing is, people need to realise pilots need to be able to do more then just fly..., they often play a crucial part in getting stuff organised... pilots need to have a mic first of all imho, they need to know how to work channel commander and they need to be vocal enough to stay in constant contact with command so their air assets can by used to the fullest extent.

There are indeed lot of flyboys on the server, but only a few allround good pilots.

One persons interreptation of good is another's bad. And the pilot usually only needs to be able to fly physically, someone else should be plotting his route's, his LZ's and/or CAS runs.

No, but seriously.. Everyone and their uncle wants to pilot, and many need far more practice in the editor ;)

Nothing worse than a blu guy who can see enemy targets but fails to call them in because he just doesnt feel like it. Keeping an updated map and knowledge of enemy posistion is one of the prime parts of operating a mission and winning a battle.

The mission called "The Longest Day" requires air transport to play. Next time you are on just call out for it. It is indeed a long mission. I like it as a replacement to Domination.

                    Re: Air Missions

The new version of Operation Downtown has been uploaded to the servers. This includes every fixed wing aircraft in the game (SU-25, SU-34, A-10, F-35 and AV-8B) in multiple roles including, strike, combat air patrol, interception, escort and suppression of enemy air defenses. Missiles and any 'smart' weapons have been removed so that pilots have to actually earn their kills in both the air to ground and air to air environment.

                        Re: Air Missions

I didn't really know it was that unbalanced, the Russian jets are slower and less maneuverable but they can also take more damage and have a bigger cannon. So head-to-head they'll probably lose, but this only means you have to alter tactics.

I think the disadvantage with downtown was that the US could get more planes up. We had 4 F35's on your first plane up.

Well now each side has the same amount of planes, (9 each), and the air base has AAA cover to prevent raping.

I think we should have classed Arma 2 members on TG. You have to pass a certain test to be able to get in a certain aircraft.
